Can Turn? Will Turn!
I've seen so many of these YouTube crash videos that they rarely make me twitch any more but this one really made me jump.

Re: Can Turn? Will Turn!
Took me a couple of goes to watch that.
Bloody hell!
He wasn't riding very, um, carefully? At least, going by the notations earlier in the video, he knew that?
But, FFS, overtaking at a junction?? And on a solid white line (guessing it's the same wherever the video was taken as here - as in, no overtaking on a solid white line).
Bloody lucky to be moving! I'm fairly sure the car was turning before he actually made the move - ok, probably he'd committed before the car did, but it's a close thing.

Re: Can Turn? Will Turn!
In the UK at least I always thought that fault lay with the overtaking vehicle, not the one being overtaken. I know we have to give way to cyclists as the approach on the near side, perhaps I need to re-read the Highway Code.
Biker didn't appear to back off so I wonder if him overtaking was his unwise 'get out' given it looked like he wouldn't have been able to avoid rear ending the car.

Re: Can Turn? Will Turn!
I think that, mentally, he was already past the car, possibly even before he committed to the overtake (which, with the speed differential, was some way before). It had ceased to be anything to be concerned about.
Plus, the junction wasn't clearly visible from some way back.

Re: Can Turn? Will Turn!
Not just a junction, he was trying to go around the outside on a blind right, which is asking for trouble either way.
I hope he heals quickly, learns from the mistake, and spreads that knowledge to his mates.

Also it wasn't shown on the "Right Hander" sign just before, maybe it was just a farm-turning?

Re: Can Turn? Will Turn!
Looks to me he wasn't expecting the car to slow and was taking avoiding action to the outside, I don't think that was a planned overtake attempt.Rockburner wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 11:40 am

Re: Can Turn? Will Turn!
That's how it should be, but it's been tried in court before, it's very sad for anyone to be in an accident, but to put the blame on someone else is something else.Beancounter wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 11:01 amIn the UK at least I always thought that fault lay with the overtaking vehicle, not the one being overtaken. Braking a moment earlier or harder may have giving him/her that few more inches to tuck in the insideBeancounter wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 11:01 am

2:53 the fingers go for the brake and still on just over 61mph what was 64 a second earlier 4 seconds later he is chewing the cud. Not Sure what country they are in but car plate look French. If so then speeding hey ho.

Re: Can Turn? Will Turn!
Maybe, but I'd risk a soapy tenner on it being him, owner of the youtube channel, who give his location as France, no way were those speeds earlier in the clip 100mph+ unless there was some serious video trickery going onRockburner wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 10:04 amMaybe english rider on holiday?

Re: Can Turn? Will Turn!
Judging by all the signage its France and as others have said the kph to mph figures look right.
I doubt he was even aware of the car preparing to turn by slowing as he gained on it so fast on the right hand bend and was looking to zoom past on the solid white line......he already captioned himself doing a similar white line overtake earlier in the video as "stupid"
As he gains on the car at the exit of the bend he brakes then comes off the brake and grabs a load of throttle for the overtake and as soon as the car moves left he brakes again
Hopefully he will learn and was lucky not to be badly injured

Re: Can Turn? Will Turn!
Just to add a quick comment - yesterday we were in the outside lane of a 2 lane dual carriageway near Vannes (in the car), overtaking an artic and a bike squeezed between us & the armco. Seemed a bit dodgy to me......

Re: Can Turn? Will Turn!
I've seen that done on the M40. (By an IAMer no less). I think he was a little frustrated by the car in the outside lane doing "only" 80mph....
