I wanted to go to them lakes as well but no way the wife could do all the walking. Might leave her at the camp site and do it myself. Good book and a bottle of Gin she will be sorted for the day

Re: Euro tunnel and beyond.
This morning...the road from Senj to Zadar was superb. Scenery twisty ,smooth and cafés spotted about. My digs for the night are ok ish, 40e and a bit of a walk to the centor, lots of mozzys in room on arrival, she apologise and went to work on them.
Zadar is a vibrant, touristy place and very nice. Rich mans boat's, historic buildings and plenty of top quality fanny to observe.
Gonna have a slow wander towards home and tomorrow its ferry in the evening, split to ancona. Short ride again tomorrow.

Re: Euro tunnel and beyond.
Did you do the tail of the Dragon road up to plitvice from the coast?
It was 14 years ago for me but iirc it was a Corker. Shame the lakes are so expensive now. When we went it was about a £5 each in the local (koruna) currency.

Re: Euro tunnel and beyond.
Short ride to Split for evening ferry. 5 hrs too early, so wander. People watched from bench, game of "yes or no", couple of beers, then wander to the ancient bit.
Very impressive, some of game of thrones was filmed here and the band wagon will sell you anything from fridge magnets to full dress get up.
Be glad to get on boat, shower and chill tbh. Got some Split pic's if anyone's interested, hopeing to get some from boat later.

Bologna is just up the road... we need a picture of the Beemer outside the gates to the Ducati factory!

Re: Euro tunnel and beyond.
Ye....Split to ancona , overnight job. Long hot ride today though, feel knackered. Had now real destination, so put in Florence, it's the general direction I want to go.
Trying to avoid big cities and still no motorways. Took me west through some lovely hilly bit's, once I got out of the city mayhem. Ended up just east of Pisa, so I am going there in the morning then heading north.
My phone data stopped working ,and without your in shit street. I rely on it for finding hotels and head for one. I've got offline maps for navigation but don't help you find digs.
Tents are out at the moment, too hot, too sandy, too many mozzys. Saw 32° today.
Tbh...I've scratched the itch and ready for home. Cooler, no mozzys. I still enjoyed the riding when it's hilly , twisty or just nice countryside, evenings are getting a bit Billy no mates, few beers, pizza , pizza or pizza and digs for 9 ish. In the cities you'll probably find other stuff but not where I am tonight.

Re: Euro tunnel and beyond.
Get free wifi at next hotel or McDonalds and the app Search for sites will at least find your camp sites. You could also try one of the free sat navs but i am not sure if you need to pay extra for the POI's to work what will find you hotels. Mapfactor Navigator or Navfree are two quite good ones.

Re: Euro tunnel and beyond.
It was just an off and on job in a end and data back on.
I never know where I'm staying until l decide I've had enough, then look for somewhere. I don't book it on phone either, just turn up. Sometimes cheaper, not always.
You need plenty of cash, some places cash only. Cash machine local currency. and make sure you don't have a bread, cheese ham, salami or pizza allergy.

I always have plenty cash when away. II have only waved my bank card over a chip n pin machine twice in my life and it felt wrong. Cash is still king. Stand in the checkout queue and watch the fuckers scramble to pay by phone. FFS cant you remember your pin then be flustered to find the app to turn on or even log in to pay for you items you prick. Old duffers who wrote a cheque were faster than this new tec shit.

Re: Euro tunnel and beyond.
Really enjoyed today, back in cooler climes. On the road by 8am, nice time and cooler. 50mins west to Pisa for a photo shoot, very, very impressive. Then north up coast, shit road at first but soon SS1 turned into one for the best, if not, I've ever ridden.
Plenty of bikes and cyclists making the most of it. Im now NE of Genoa, in the hills, ace. Big storm, got wet through, but cooler and nice.
Looked up bnb before i left hotel this morning, about 5 hrs away, enough. Great place up in the hills, thunder, lightning and very pissing down. Bnbs definitely better than hotels, looked after proper.
I've got my own bedroom. Tv lounge, out door gazebo over looking the cloud's in the valley. Proper nice people and he speaks good English.

Re: Euro tunnel and beyond.
This thread makes me massively knackered...and I am starting to miss home tbh. It's ace when you're on great roads, not too hot, but it ain't always like that.
I'm thinking now...it's probably better to know where you're staying before you hit the road and head for it as your destination. You can always drift about, but it gives you an approx travel time, say 5ish hours.
If you don't know where you're staying and it's 3/4 pm, it can get stressful, especially if it's hot, trying to find somewhere and without data, proper painful.
Heading west next, towards Cannes and headed up towards Glenoble. I originally planned on going up so far, then SW towards Spain but I may now carry on north and head home. Decision will be made next day of two.
GS is my bestest friend now.

Dont go to Norway orSweden. Chip and pin or on your bike. Fuel stations unmanned, and the next one is 100 miles away.Felix wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 2:21 amI always have plenty cash when away. Re: Euro tunnel and beyond.
I did a long weekend in Gothenburg last year.
I have no idea what the local currency looked like. No one wanted it. Most shops and restaurants had signs saying card only.
