This Should Be Fun
At the upcoming Portimao test, most of the factory riders will be on road bikes as a familiarisation exercise. They'll be alongside the factory test riders, including Jorge...
Firstly we'll see which really is the best litre sports bike
But also see just how close a standard sports bike really is compared to a MotoGP monster. WSB bikes are 2 or 3 seconds slower, and Superstock machines a further 2 or 3 seconds back. I reckon the road bikes will be well under 10 seconds behind.
MCN would love this group test ride
MotoGP Riders Track Familiarisation (Production machines)
Brad Binder (KTM)
Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati)
Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati)
Pol Espargaro (KTM)
Alex Marquez (Honda)
Jack Miller (Ducati)
Joan Mir (Suzuki)
Takaaki Nakagami (Honda)
Miguel Oliveira (KTM)
Valentino Rossi (Yamaha)
Maverick Viñales (Yamaha)
Johann Zarco (Ducati)
Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia)

Re: This Should Be Fun
Well KTM don't have a modern litre class sports bike, so I'm guessing they'll be on 1290 Super Adventures.
The knobblies will help them get out of the kitty litter if they go of track.

So what's the biggest cause of the difference in speed?
I'm guessing tyres, brakes and power...in that order?

Yeah MotoGP is pretty dang powerful. IIRC they posted faster speed traps than the F1 at Mugello.

Weight, don't forget weight (or the lack of it).

Re: This Should Be Fun
I assume KTM adapting a few 1290 SD's with clip ons and fairings would take them out of the loop for being legal for testing as its supposed to be for the riders to get used to the circuit as opposed to improving the bikes and settings as mentioned above ?

Re: This Should Be Fun
Yeah, KTM boys will just use SDs, as GP says it's just for familiarisation, not who can set the fastest lap on a road bike- the non-KTms are just Superstockers , will be fun but will prove 3/5 of feck all IMO
What they really ought to do is get them all out on SS300s , that would be entertaining, , but most imoprtantly would give me a benchmark for our Portimao trip in the new year

Have you been watching the Junior Supersport Class in BSB?
I reckon it's even more mental than SS300. Best UK National racing imho, those boys (and girls) are proper mental.

Re: This Should Be Fun
KTM are using R1’s as they don’t make anything good enough, it’s alright ploughing money into racing but they need to make something you can buy off the back of it
