Re: KTM 1190 Adventure S
I had a whirl on a GSX-S1000GT last autumn, albeit only for an hour but I thought it was excellent. Might be worth a try.

Re: KTM 1190 Adventure S
I was gonna recommend one of them but didn't know if it was too new. I love my GSXS wicked bike. Would love a GT but 4k + change over isn't worth it.ChrisW wrote: Tue May 16, 2023 7:23 pm I had a whirl on a GSX-S1000GT last autumn, albeit only for an hour but I thought it was excellent. Re: KTM 1190 Adventure S
It's relatively pricey compared to some vfr1200s but it's only got 7500 miles and has fsh so while I could save 2k I'd be buying something with 40k+ on it. Also this has dct.

Yep, I want to try something different and the adventure bike thing got old really quickly during 25 hours of motorway over the weekend.

Re: KTM 1190 Adventure S
My mate had a DCT one as his last bike, he smashed it to pieces along with his pelvis
I gave Screwed the remains I seem to recall.
However he really liked it. Said it was pretty heavy but well made and plenty fast enough with a flagship type feel about it. For touring it'd be great I reckon. He also liked the DCT, apart from the one time he blipped the throttle at some lights and nearly ploughed into the crossing traffic
he didn't do that again though

Did they ever really catch on? They seemed to be a classy touring bike when they first came out,then....all went quiet and it sort of became a forgotten model. I actually don't know a thing about them, good or bad.dern wrote: Wed May 17, 2023 1:21 pm I'm going to see this at the weekend with an aim to trading the ktm in...

Re: KTM 1190 Adventure S
I don’t think so. They lacked a lot of features that were starting to be added to tourers at the time, remotely adjustable suspension and so on. I don’t think that the range is as good as some of the competition either.Skub wrote: Wed May 17, 2023 6:33 pmDid they ever really catch on? That said I love a Honda and v4s are cool. I thought about the bmw but couldn’t bring myself to want one after the gs I had.

Re: KTM 1190 Adventure S
I remember the press when they were launched.
They were all expecting a bigger, better VFR750.
It was bigger and better, but not enough for them to recommend it over the then current model 800.
I almost bought one once, but ended up with an older/cheaper Varadero instead.

It was an odd move by Honda as I don’t think that they’re comparable at all.

The K12s and 13s vs the GS - tbh you wouldn't know it's the same manufacturer in most respects. The Honda looks like a good touring package though.dern wrote: Wed May 17, 2023 6:40 pm

Re: KTM 1190 Adventure S
I’d almost convinced myself it was a good idea and found a nice bike and the detail said something like usual corrosion on drive shaft housing and bolts and I just thought fuck that. I have read that they’re a lot better than the gs though.Count Steer wrote: Wed May 17, 2023 6:50 pmThe K12s and 13s vs the GS - tbh you wouldn't know it's the same manufacturer in most respects. Re: KTM 1190 Adventure S
Indeed, I took a small tin of lube with me on one Euro trip, after two days of rain and 800 miles I was out of lube and the chain was a proper state (one of the reason I bought the GS was cos of the cardan).
So what Dern really needs, if he doesn't want a beemer or an adventure bike, is one of them brand new Guzzi V100 Mandellos.

Re: KTM 1190 Adventure S
Yeah he did it properly. Me and my other mate (in the pic) picked it up and getting it on a trailer with 2 flat tyres and 1 buckled wheel was fun. I never even got to ride it before he killed it, selfish bugger!
