The point when I went to shift gear and the lever was nowhere to be had when i was trying to shift with my foot, when I looked down it was dangling along with the shift rod.

Only damage was a slight rub mark on the side stand switch housing but I can live with that. It’s 100% my fault, during the winter I swapped over the gear shift from road to race shift and forgot to use thread lock, I may not have even torqued it as it was more a swap it over and get it adjusted and deal with it later and then completely forgot about it. It’s correctly fitted now

My most embarrassing mishap was way back, can’t remember the year exactly but you couldn’t write it, when I think back especially now I think “how the fuck, sounds made up”.

Anyway, I had a vfr400 and it was stripped down the for the winter, and I had been slowly rebuilding it as the start of the season approached and was down to the last few parts when my grandpa was heading across to my Aunts for a visit on his Kawasaki VN900 Classic. So I rushed the last few bits and said to him “I’ll see you across there (16 miles) and we’ll head for a run after to wherever”.

So I left and as I was approaching a junction maybe 5 miles from Callander I felt something hit my leg and then when I went to brake for the junction something wasn’t right, so I pulls in and sure enough the caliper bolts on one side had came out and the caliper had swung right up. I decided I’ll continue on but take it easy and use the rear brake and my gramps can go grab my spares.

I then turned off and headed the last few miles to my aunts in Bucklyvie which is slightly wider than a single track road and I shit you not the rear caliper fell off

So I pulls in to the side which was out the way ( imho ) and lay on my arse trying to secure the caliper in such a way that I could make it the last few miles and this woman pulled up in her car, rolled the window down and started giving me tons of abuse moaning that I was blocking the road I couldn’t believe it, there was plenty room, plus it wasn’t like I was parked up for the sake of it. Needless to say I have her plenty abuse back.

My wife once asked me - while we were driving down teh motorway at 70mph - how I knew the wheel bolts were done up.

After some thought the best answer I could come up with was "I don't, but they probably are".

The current car I'm driving had all 20 wheel nuts finger tight only, well I say all 20, I assume it was as only 18 were left by the time I found out about it.

Mate of mine was a trainee tyre fitter when the Calibra was popular, he didn't torque a wheel up and it came off at silly speeds and the car was totaled.

Needless to say his tyre fitting career came to a very abrupt halt. Just like the Calibra.

Surprised it didn't throw an engine management light on thinking it had broke itself!

There was a reason behind it, the car was playing up so I had to go to work to collect a battery booster pack, jump cables and a battery charger which I managed to get in a backpack so you can imagine the weight on my back, so decided to ride back home sensibly.

I ain’t going to lie it’s torture because it feels so slow. But at the other end it’s taking me a while to get back into the swing of things, the first few rides when getting a shift on it feels stupid fast, I’m just having to get used to it again, the downside of being off the bike all winter.

I was in the car yesterday,on a road I like to enjoy on the bike,when it's free from traffic. I was the second car back from a queue behind a tractor,resigned because there are absolutely no clear overtaking opportunities at that point. Approaching a fairly sharp left hander,the Seat in front of me pulls out and makes no hurry to get by. It looked like he was still in top gear to me. He ended up going around the outside of the tractor right on the bend. I'm thinking,anyone coming the opposite direction has zero chance of avoiding a head on.

He got away with it,so he'll most likely do it again until he doesn't.

People do fucking stupid things.
