Mt-09 SP

Hi All, friends with Claude and coming back to bikes after a couple of years break.

Had great fun previously with a 2012 Street Triple R and definitely wanted another triple. After the a bit of searching, landed on a nice MT-09 SP and picked it up 2 weekends ago.

First thing was the have the suspension tweaked as the bike is was clearly unbalanced frint/rear so i took it to Kais in Atherton (i think) and its bob on now.

Next will be to have it remapped, mainly to smooth out the throttle response. Other than that, happy days!

Yamaha's model designation confuses the bag outta me! What's wrong with MT 800,then tubes like me wouldn't need google.

Lovely engine but the demo SP i rode soon seemed to get out of it’s depth front end wise when I pushed it along. Didn’t inspire much confidence so couldn’t justify spending more on suspension after buying one.

Sounds like you’ve got that sorted though so...Nice bike!!

That's a cracking bike. We really are spoilt for choice in the 650 - 900 bit.

As for invalidating warrant.. Im not that concerned on a 2 Yr old machine with 5k on the clock already. Besides, it took me less than 6 months to to start tinkering with my previous street triple and i did have that from new.

There's a very good group test in the latest Bike magazine: Triumph Street Triple RS (8/10), KTM890 (9/10), MV Agusta Brutale 800RR (7/10), Yamaha MT-09 SP (9/10).

They say: "Triumph's triple makes more power and the revvy MV may deliver a bigger thrill, but the Yamaha is easiest and nicest to use."

Actually, they seem to quite like it (joint highest score of 9/10). They say: "...this has to be the perkiest and most exciting of all the current middleweight nakeds..."

I do wonder 2 things at times.

1. Should i try the MT-09SP one day
2. WHy do they keep picking the wrong bike for these tests, pick the XSR900.

The Triumph always does well on these shootouts, handling is praised etc etc but I really didn't get that at all when I tried Wotsitt's Street Triple R. Front end felt complete disconnected to me. At the time I had the RSVR so maybe that's the difference, going from sportsbike clipons to handlebars, but when I changed from the rsvr to the Monster I still felt connected and the Brutale more so. Odd.
