That's the bit to machine off.
The r6 calipers have a step which fits into the top of the spacer. The original nissin calipers bolt to the fork leg without any insert, just flat to flat. Doesn't seem ideal. It that's how they are.
Had thought about removing a small part of the thread in the fork bottom for the shoulder of the spacer to fit.

No that's fine, I just need to come up with a way to mount them without marking them up.
They will need to be clamped in the lathe jaws but there are ways to mitigate any potential scuffs or dings.
I am assuming they are anodised aluminium. The bottom face will of course end up flat and lose its surface finish.

I turned a spare alloy bar to include a small nub that was a snug fit inside the spacer. Superglue the spacer, turn to dimension then hit with a torch to disconnect the glue.
Let me see if I can hack together a picture post, broadband still out and there are complications with hotspot (on this old system I am in the midel of replacing).
