Exactly the beast that I used to scroll down to see what you're pleasing purchase was! I can tell you it's fine!

A single egg frying pan! £2.50 in Aldi! No real idea why, but I’ve always wanted one! Image

Not a purchase, a leaving gift from work.

Cervélo track frame...the same as used by Team GB to win 6 gold medals in Rio. This is one of the prototypes that had an issue, hence why it looks so dog eared! I designed it back in 2015. I didn't know we still had any in the building so it was a nice surprise gift.

Gonna clean it up and stick it on the wall.

I can only imagine the scramble for last minute ideas around the office when your Boss realised he'd forgotten to buy you a leaving card :D

My boss has been furloughed.

I doubt very much I'd have got a bike if senior management were still around :D Technically it should been put beyond use before I got it....

It's pretty much the only bit you can't just walk into a shop and buy though, hence the ownership restriction.

As much as i'm taking the piss a bit, i'd love to see more in depth.

As you'd expect, I'm not at liberty to say very much at all about these frames.

I will say that making a good bicycle, be it metal or composite, is crazy hard. The head of technical development at British Cycling - Tony Purnell - is ex F1 and was team principal at Res Bull. He and I had quite a few conversations about how surprisingly tricky bikes are.

Making a frame is easy, making one which is as stiff, light and aerodynamic as Olympic ones is quite another matter. For example most carbon bikes are bonded together from tubes, metal ones are similarly welded together. These Olympic ones have to be a single piece moulding, that's the only way you'll get the performance.

I think the thing you'd find most surprising is the weight. They're pretty fat, UCI regs state a minimum 6.8kg for the whole bike. Since track frames have no brakes or gears you have quite a lot to play with, so the frame is quite chunky compared to a top end road TT bike (its still loads lighter than most frames you'll find amongst mortals). It's also about twice as stiff as even a very stiff road bike you can buy in the shop.

Looks a bit better in the day light than on the showroom floor.

Goes alright for a tiddler...

I was hoping the white writing would be engineer's prototype scribble, not lamentable farewell nonsense from colleagues. They ruined it! ;)

I had a courtesy car with wireless charging built in, you chuck your phone into the cubby hole in front of the gearstick and it charges.

Brilliant stuff.
