Its great fun when it works. Needs a lot of attention though. I swear it just starts leaking when I look at it sometimes 😆

Mate of mine just swapped his Rothmans NS250R for an RS because it was a bit newer, more reliable and more tractable.

He's not the quickest and couldn't keep the NS on the boil, apparently the RS is better at normal road speeds and more forgiving.

I can appreciate that, all these small bikes need a lot of work to keep upto speed. Great fun but tiring at the same time. I would imagine that the Honda is a bit more focused than the aprilia in that regard. It did lead to one of the best photos I've seen when my lad got on the wrong side of it. I'll see if I can dig it out.

That's very nice.

My memory of RGV250 engines is that when they worked well they were fantastic, but most of the time they were impossible to get the jetting right on.

Its been OK since I've had it. It went off to reps, a dyno guy near me, for a session with the arrow exhausts, and it was running well, a mighty 58hp but so much fun. The only issue I've had is the tank breather blocking. It's a very strange arrangement on the 250 where there's a moulding that runs through the tank and ends in a nipple at the very bottom of the tank. These corrode and cause fuel starvation. Not a problem if you're still running the autolube but causes serious issues if running premix. Mines not jetted for out and out power but I was told its been left a little rich. I'm no expert though.

Leave it rich, pouring petrol in is cheaper than pistons.

From what people have said, I think the Aprillia is less fussy than the RGVs the UK got, it may have the later RGV250P engine which Suzuki UK never imported.

58bhp from a 250 is very healthy, it's about what an early 80s TZ250 made, I had an FZR400 that made the same sort of power, it would hit a genuine 135mph (worked out from gearing), it never felt slow at Cadwell and was quick enough at Snetterton

Did the crash cause much damage?

Not too bad really but it broke my heart. It was (coincidentally) just a few days later I was told about a chronic illness and lost my mojo.

It went home, sat in the garage, untouched where it still sits to this day.

It's right next to this one:

Which jumped off the fucking trailer on the way to Cadwell...

That's still sitting there waiting for me to do something with it too.

<edit> photos were on Photobucket (yeah it was a long time ago) and I can't find any of the images but I do have a complete record of my various posts on VD/TRC.
