Re: BMW F900R Cup
What about when racers from MotoGP go and win WSB then ? Same thing ? Where do you draw the line ?
No-one complained when McWilliams raced the Harleys, or Walker raced the Ducati tri-options.
Or even when Sykes and Haslam came back to BSB ? (stop laughing )

Not complaining at all, It's quite good fun to watch. The racing, not the school disco.

They are racing at the highest level available to them.
Not having a second bow to their arrow for extra prize money and prestige.

Re: BMW F900R Cup
It's fairly obvious that there's a hierarchy when it comes to the support races for BSB. SuperStock, Supersport and British Talent Cup being the top tier support series, and the Junior Stock/Supersport being feeders into those.
Aside from the very early days of the R6 cup, I can't recall any of the one make series producing riders that have gone on to glory in any of the top tier racing series (BSB, Supersport, Superstock, etc). I'm sure someone will correct me on that view, but if someone has gone on to be a big star, it's the exception and not the norm.
As such I don't mind the older racers joining the F900 cup - whilst they are still extremely fast, their better days are behind them, so why can't they race in a series that is relatively cheap and fun?

McWilliams is pushing 60 though, he's not a threat to up and coming riders. More like an oul lad having some craic.

Re: BMW F900R Cup
Yup, they did the same with the K12R, why else would you make a one make series for a bike the length of a limousine? They weren't selling anything like the numbers needed to recoup the development costs of the transverse K'sKungFooBob wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 8:17 am
I imagine this is to try and boost sales, shame it's at the expense of the Tri-Options Cup.

Wasn't the Tri options cup good for Ducati sales?Bigjawa wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:23 amYup, they did the same with the K12R, why else would you make a one make series for a bike the length of a limousine? I think the Tri options cup Ducati's are eligible for this years Supersport series.
How many seasons are BMW running this series?
All the manufacturers try to promote their bikes through racing, look at how many Superstock teams suddenly ran Fireblades after the Honda offer the other year.

The f900 series is contracted for a 3 year run.Bustaspoke wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:55 amWasn't the Tri options cup good for Ducati sales?Bigjawa wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:23 amYup, they did the same with the K12R, why else would you make a one make series for a bike the length of a limousine? Re: BMW F900R Cup
The big difference is that the bikes BMW run in their one make series' aren't eligible to run in other classes. It's strictly to shift expensive toys.Bustaspoke wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:55 am

I'm all for it though, it's fun to see odd bikes getting raced.

Re: BMW F900R Cup
According to Fagan although it's his name against the 44T entry, the three of them ( him Boothy and Chris) are taking turns at alternate rounds.
Good to hear Boothy will be back on a bike , fingers crossed for him
This is Fagan testing at Almeria- the 1:48(ish) that he's doing in that vid would win you Inters ( © @Couchy ) IMO and is decent fast group pace around there on a big bike, and there's a long and slightly uphill straight there so isn't hanging about on a 100hp naked - I think the bikes look and sound lovely and reckon this series should be an entertaining one - I'll be interested to see what new names emerge from it

Re: BMW F900R Cup
I don't know anything about how racing works, but would dropping a name in just be to get some publicity for the series?

Where did you get that from??
Haslam and Toseland raced CB's but I thought Casey came through 125s.

I dunno, apart from the early days of the R6 cup, I've found the one make series boring to watch.Bigjawa wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 2:42 pmThe big difference is that the bikes BMW run in their one make series' aren't eligible to run in other classes. They remind me of club racing - dull to watch, but if you're riding, brilliant fun.

Dunno. When I was racing, we used to watch the other proddy racers, to see if they were as daft as uswesters151 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 8:42 pmI dunno, apart from the early days of the R6 cup, I've found the one make series boring to watch.Bigjawa wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 2:42 pmThe big difference is that the bikes BMW run in their one make series' aren't eligible to run in other classes.
