NBD : The Storm in the clouds. (Well, actually NOT)

As you may know, I sold the KTM to fund a new van.

But I thought a cheap Bandit may come in to give me a sunny afternoon tool for not much money. I wanted it to be worth the same in 3 weeks, 3 months or a year.

The Bandits were not quite doing it for me though so I went with a Honda Firestorm.

Let's see what the next few days brings and assuming he completes on it, it'll be in the garage in a day or 3.

Super pleased for you. I dont think any of us if can live a bike free life, but with your MTB commitments, it makes no sense in having big coin sitting idle in the garage. This should fit the bill nicely. Look forward to the updates on it. :thumbup:

It's a 100+ bhp twin, built like Honda used to. They sound cool, are comfy and fun things.

There's nothing special as such, but it's a £1200 bike, so if it goes and stops it's a winner.

I have good memories of them from early in my bike days and I borrowed one from a mate as I was between bikes, we hooned the hell out of Wales till midnight in summer.

As far as I'm aware the CCT and rectifier are original, not showing any signs of failure but the CCT tends to just go on these with no warning.

There is an amount of service history but as I've recently moved house it would be in a box somewhere.

I'm happy to take your address and send you anything that appears. Obviously MOT history is all available online now.

But I have a V5C and a key.
These models don't have the immobiliser so it's a simple key if you need to get a spare
Can't say I'm worried. All the MOTs are passes and it's a £1200 bike after all

So what's the plan, Mr Weeks?

Does it have the seat cowl?
Is it still on the OEM CCT's?
Have the forks been painted?

I rode one once back in 2000 and something, I used my mates Clare's to take another mate to pick up a hire bike in Nice on it when his 955 Gaytony broke on a biker holiday. Her's dyno'ed with just cans and a jet kit at 106bhp iirc.

I owned a Mk2 Varadero, similar engine, but EFI and with a 6th gear. It had different cams and tiny header pipes so made a lot less power than the storm, but had some proper lower/midrange stomp.

It only has 5 gears? Lol really

Tbh as far as plans go, currently there's none. I've got some rubber here if needed, assuming it's on 17s both ends.
The simplest part of the plan though is, I wanted something I could use whenever, go out if it's slightly damp and meet GP when it gets dry and if I hit a puddle, I hit a puddle. Or semi spring I get up and it's a bit nice but not perfect, I can still ride it.
I know the obvious answer to that is "why couldn't you before" and we all know the why, because I'm me.

I don't know much at all about it, I didn't ask any questions matey. It was £1200. Even if I hate it, I could spend an hour or two with a polisher and make it a £1500 bike with decent pics.
If @scottyuk and @Paulo said "you coming to Cochem" then I could do. Well, hypothetically as their trip clashes with a DH race this year.
I can't see me taking it on track in reality, but it'd be ok if I did.
So mostly, it'll get a bit of fuel and if needed an oil change and service.

Maybe it has 6. The Mk1 Varadero only had 5 and was carbed. I assumed the 'Storm only had five too.

Oh the pre-2001 (or is it 2002) got a tiny tiny fuel tank to feed those massive carbs. If touring you'll need to keep an eye on the range.

@G.P said 110 miles on smaller tank model. That's perfectly fine for me. But yes it's a small tank version

Enjoy the new bike, it's not a bike I'd have bought, but they are well made and that looks like a good one.
