Honda Hides the CB300R battery!

They chose to put the battery for the Cb300R under the front of the fuel tank. This requires significant dismantling before you can even see it!

Remove seat - 2 screws.
Remove tank cover which is just a dummy - 7 screws and a wrestling match.
Unfasten front of real tank - 2 screws.
Lift tank at front then unfasten battery cover which fold back under the tank nose to keep it raised.

Should you actually want to access the terminals the negative connector has to be removed to allow a further plastic terminal cover to be unscrewed to slide out and gain access to the insulator over the positive terminal.

One further gotcha is that two of the seven tank cover screws are tamperproof type, it doesn't tell you that in the handbook!

The purpose of all this was to wire in a charging cable which will also act as a fused auxiliary feed for a usb adapter if I decide its needed.

Just think of the fun you would have if you needed the rescue services to come out to a flat battery!

Are you sure there isn't a 'remote' positive terminal for jump starting?

My 1200GS has a 'pole' stuck out for clamping the charger too because the positive terminal on the battery is hidden when fitted.

Ha! Yamaha did similar with the TDM850 back in the 90s.

Most modern bikes are an arse to work on. Simple jobs like a spark plug change on a sportsbike will require much dismantling.

Yep, it took me good half an hour to swap the battery out on the Harley, if I ever need to jump it it gets done through the starter motor rather than the battery.

My car has one of those and I suppose you could find something suitable on the fuse box but that is also buried under two layers of plastic panels. To be fair its a budget bike compared to the BMW. There is a more easily accessible diagnostic socket under the seat but it would be risky to guess which pin is live to the battery without interfering with the electronics.

I've rebuilt GPz1100 engines for fun, I paid someone else to check the valve clearances on my 2020 Suzuki, the airbox, fuel injection and radiator amongst other parts have to come off, getting to the spark plugs involves removing the radiator.

I'd have thought your GSXR would have been much the same but with the added pleasure of taking a fairing off, if you're talking about your KTM / Gas Gas, just go away, I miss the days of two stroke maintenance, I could change the pistons in a 250LC in under an hour in 1986, fleX7s were even easier.

Lift tank up. Take off airbox top. Remove injectors.
Take plugs out.

Try a throttle cable on a K1200 Arseport.

Battery cover off, battery out, fairing off, tank cover inserts off, tank cover off, tank out, airbox out, throttle bodies off. Dismantle throttle at bars, fight like buggery to get the cable of at the TB end.

Thus sort of thing reminds me of out LC350 racing.
Piston change half hour.
Crank change 2 hours.

Every race team had crow bar and big lump hammer.
Walk around paddock and you'd see aforementioned tools repairing crashed bikes :D

When I was in motor trade that was known as the impact engineering dept! :lol:
