Not a bad day for February

I feel your pain, so much "grit" down here on the Sarf Coast roads the seagulls are rubbing their stolen from the DFL's chips into it for extra salt! And on Sunday I have to use the bike for work as I refuse to be "bus wanka" (engineering work) and its forecast to rain later in the day for extra salty crudiness to be thrown at the bike.Skub wrote: Thu Mar 02, 2023 11:42 am It was the driest February for 30 years here and the bastard council fired down salt every single night for weeks,so potentially a lot of saddle time lost.

I wish they would save that shit for when it's needed. Kahunts.
It's little things like caliper hose brackets and stuff that are shitty build quality on any bike and no matter how careful you are the salt eats them. I've no beef with salting roads when it's icy,the bike won't be out anyway, but firing it down on bone dry roads night after night is a real fun killer.MingtheMerciless wrote: Thu Mar 02, 2023 12:16 pmI feel your pain, so much "grit" down here on the Sarf Coast roads the seagulls are rubbing their stolen from the DFL's chips into it for extra salt! oh and the fairing brackets on the ZH2 appear to have been shown the can of black paint in the factory and told to pretend to be painted.
I suspect a lot of it is due to budgets. If they don't use all the salt they've been allocated, next year they get less.Skub wrote: Thu Mar 02, 2023 1:01 pm but firing it down on bone dry roads night after night is a real fun killer.
This always pisses me off especially when it’s weather dependant. Waste it when it’s not needed but we will cut your budget the following year if you don’t use it meaning you run the chance of running out when it’s needed the next year. They’re all fucking idiots.mangocrazy wrote: Thu Mar 02, 2023 1:51 pmI suspect a lot of it is due to budgets. Doesn't lessen the annoyance and frustration though. I fully understand your aggrieved-ness...
Almost the opposite.mangocrazy wrote: Thu Mar 02, 2023 1:51 pm I suspect a lot of it is due to budgets. If they don't use all the salt they've been allocated, next year they get less.
I remember being told the same while on a live during exercise during my time in the Army. If we hand any rounds back in the allocation for next year goes down so I ended up firing off thousands of rounds of belt ammunition through a GPMG. I had so much to get rid of I had to keep changing barrels and trying to cool them down againmangocrazy wrote: Thu Mar 02, 2023 1:51 pmI suspect a lot of it is due to budgets. Sounds more satisfying than smashing crockery for fun.Bigyin wrote: Fri Mar 03, 2023 11:38 am I remember being told the same while on a live during exercise during my time in the Army. Did you go out twice?

Over here tomorrow's looking alright but the rest of the week involves sub zero temps so the gritters will be out again.Skub wrote: Mon Mar 06, 2023 4:29 pm I thought there was a window of opportunity today and the weather is set to go downhill for the next few weeks,so off I went.
I've been eyeing the very same windows of sunshine on the forecast for tomorrow - planning on getting an MOT done and then buggering off for a bit before the weather turns.Bustaspoke wrote: Mon Mar 06, 2023 5:47 pmOver here tomorrow's looking alright but the rest of the week involves sub zero temps so the gritters will be out again.Skub wrote: Mon Mar 06, 2023 4:29 pm I thought there was a window of opportunity today and the weather is set to go downhill for the next few weeks,so off I went.
We had rain for a couple of hours earlier today hopefully washing away any recent grit,so with a bit of luck I'll get out for a spin tomorrow.![]()
