I dislike driving in Devon because of the lack of visibility caused by the hedges

Some parts of N Devon they are more tunnel than hedge. At least the police helicopter can't see you, so you won't get done for speeding.

The parents of a family friend were run over by a tank on Salisbury plain. No joke, they both survived, but with life changing injuries.

I had an uncomfortably close encounter myself. Early hours of the morning, near Stonehenge on the A303 many years ago. There was a tank track that crosses the road. I was barreling along in an old Beetle with piss-poor 6v headlights and a squadie with a torch comes into view, and I just about managed to stop. The squadie was then reinforced with a Chieftain, or Conqueror or some such behemoth crossing the road. I think both the squadie and I had a bum-clenching moment

I daren't speed in North Devon, it'd be like playing Russian Roulette with 5 chambers loaded

I nearly got squished by an APC at then Chobham roundabout FB used to use for knee down photos. I was circulating on my ZX7-R and as I swept round the roundabout this APC appeared with the driver looking ahead and the commander looking at me, the driver hadn't seen me and was carrying on so the commander hit him on the top of the head and the APC stood on its nose, hopped a bit and lurched to a halt, half on the roundabout, luckily I just tightened my line rather than hitting the brakes which would've stood the bike up, straight into the side of the APC.

"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."
