It's cool. Always liked him and I've learned a helluva lot.
I'm amazed.

The Last of Us. I'm up to episode 5 and loving it. Set 20 years after a mutated fungus gets into the food chain and almost wipes mankind out by infecting the host and turning the world's vegans into meat eaters (or something), the story follows Joel, a man with a dark past and something of an anti-hero, who is tasked with transporting a 14 year old girl across post apocalyptic America. It's not the typical hack/slash/shoot American zombie fest, everything is about avoidance which makes the series far more tense. The city landscape cinematography is pretty awesome and particulary disturbing, but it's the character development and relationship between the ageing, grumpy Joel and his foul-mouthed, outspoken companion (played brilliantly by Bella Ramsey) that keeps you hooked.
And while it all sounds very far fetched, not only does this fungus actually exist, it also takes control of the host (insects) and forces them to act in unnatural ways
Well worth a watch, I only hope it doesn't go down the Walking Dead route and turn into a shite zombie soap opera.

The fungus thing was done in MR Carey's The Girl With All The Gifts novel tooHoonercat wrote: Thu Feb 23, 2023 11:27 am The Last of Us. I'm up to episode 5 and loving it. It was also done in the original computer game on which the series is based...

agree with both of these points. To say Wakanda forever is bad is an understatement. Easily the worst film i've seen in years (I quite enjoyed Black Panther).McNab wrote: Mon Feb 27, 2023 9:07 am Bullet Train - Good fun.
Wakanda Forever - Shite, usual sub-standard Marvel fare that they pedal these days.
All quiet on the Western Front: very powerful. It's on Netflix now- I watched it in German (with English subtitles - I tend to have English subtitles on English shows, too). No spoilers, but It's haunting. Well worth a couple of hours of your time.

Couldn't get into this to start with but then I did and ended up going back to the beginning and watching it from the start. Thoroughly enjoyed it and it had a very unexpected ending. Just when you think its all over...

Bullet Train. WTF. Some sort of bastardised Guy Ruichie production. Got about half hour in then bailed on it.
Marlowe. As a kid I read most of Chandlers boks and loved the B&W films. When I saw this as a new release, I was nervous, then I saw it starred Liam Neeson , which is a red flag for me, but I pressed on for another half hour then bailed.
Note to self; Brad Pidd and Liam Neeson films are to be avoided at all costs...

One of the greatest deceptions in war time. You'll know the story, they float a dead body with papers containing disinformation...

Poker Face, starring and directed by Russell Crowe. Watchable I suppose...
John WIck. Laughable and stupid beyond belief, yet it's a successful franchise. Just me then!
