Today I had a spare hour. So I stripped out the lower shock wishbone, cleaned it and regreased it.




Weeksy, look away. the bike is staying like this, protective coating of dirt etc....

Ok. the bottom shock area has been given a good brushing with a soft brush. I'll be rolling the bike out and spraying it from a distance with the jetwash on soft and maybe then I'll take picture... Also rubbed down petrol tank ring and sprayed it. It is always covered up by tank bag, but it will now look hammered!

The petrol cap surround cleaned up and painted. I have to do a patch on the swingarm, but I need smooth black for that. Need to take rear wheel off so I have proper access.

You've just reminded me that the fuel cap is modified. Instead of having an empty space at the top of the tank, you can fill it up to (almost) brimming.



The little holes allow air to escape from the top part of the tank - you can get another litre or two in.

Yep - that's why the 'air-trap' is there in the first place.

I tend to fill up as I'm leaving for a longish ride anyway, rather than at the end of a ride, so I don't tend to have that issue.

Waited a bit, stuck wheel back on, left bike locked up and will ride tomorrow once paint is dried overnight. Good enough to look decent and gives it a nice layer of protection again.

It may also have something to do with a certain red team having a 2 litre overflow tank that was always accidentally full at the start of the race.

The FIM do no such thing, extract from the 2020 MotoGP technical regulations;

"...Fuel tank capacity.
• The fuel tank capacity limit in the MotoGP Class is a maximum of
22 litres.
• In defining fuel tank capacity all containers/devices of the
motorcycle capable of supplying fuel to the carburettors/injectors
may be taken into account (with the exception of the fuel catch
tank including it’s supply tubing, and any containing devices
downstream of the fuel pump)."

You're right...they stipulate the fuel temperature instead, which is tantamount to the same thing. They did it cause teams were chilling their fuel to get more in.

I thought they stated a number of kgs because that is what you're actually trying to limit, but I guess measuring temperature is easier for scruitneerimg.

7. Fuel Te0mperature
For the MotoGP race, no fuel on the motorcycle may be more than fifteen degrees C (15°C) below ambient temperature. The use of any device on the motorcycle to artificially decrease the temperature of the fuel below ambient temperature is forbidden.

It's F1 that regulates fuel mass rather than volume, 110kg per race.

Running the bike on 99RON from Sainsburys as there is on 4 miles from me. Costs the same as the 95RON near me. Road to Canterbury Cathedral and back today, achieved 42.8mpg and I was not sitting around, riding at a fairly rapid pace and I also did a MotoGP start up to 3rd gear to get some space pulling away form approaching traffic. It is rapid! Effortless overtakes in 6th and just smooth as anything.

They actually seem to use a bit less fuel when you make progress* rather than potter about. Don't rely on the computer though, it say I averaged 41.5 commuting on my one for a week, the fuel I put in at the pump worked out as 36. I can't ever say I've ever wanted more power. I've even reverted to the standard blockbuster of a can to avoid waking my village. Hard to get 98 RON here so just using 95.

*By making progress I mean going to work at 6am and being able to cruise at speeds that would not be good for a man of the cloth to be caught doing.....
