That's true, I was just wondering if they missed a bit of his obvious genius in what was a topsy turvy run-up. Maybe if it had been a 'normal' Tour year they would have muddled through OK with a tried and test formula, but as things have been so unusual this year the team haven't worked as dynamically as they could/should have. That's clear supposition though.

One thing is for sure though, you look at the Jumbo team and that is some talent and they've been building up to this year for some time now. They had their Tour team announced some considerable time ago, Ineos were still finalising in the final weeks to the lead up.

I'm still unsure how JV managed to get such riders and make them so happy to ride together and for eachother without anyone really noticing the talent they were putting together.. It just sort of crept up.

It is bastard hot here already at 9am, with weather warnings all around, so I guess that brings it's own challenges

Cormet de Roseland is 'interesting' on a motorbike!!! That road is seriously tight and twisty at the start from Bourg St Maurice (that's my nearest town from home - gutted to be 2 hours away!!) and again after the CdR

I don't think it'll happen but will love Porte to get on the podium in Paris after the time trial today. If you ever get a chance to chat to him he's a truly super guy. I saw him at the Tour of Britain a few years back when he was recovering from the crash at the Olympic road race and was visiting some of the teams, I took the chance to say hi and that I hoped he was recovering well. Before I knew it he gave me five minutes of his time just to chat bikes and riding and then walked with me to the next team he was going to drop in to say hi to.

Catch him in an interview. A really nice chap who gives an honest, frank interview. After a few years of bad luck it'll be nice for him to get a really strong Grand Tour finish before he ends his career as a super domestique.
