Yeahbutt, you're not meant to sit on the tank,it's the part behind that you need. :P

One of them looks lovely, that other adv thang just reinforces my dislike of the genre. Gopping.

I’ve not ridden either of these bikes and unlikely to now. A few have commented on low speed engine troubles, much of this comes from the gearing which (as far as I remember) was set to allow the engines to pass noise regs at certain speeds- may be different now.
Ducati have used 15 tooth front sprockets on a lot of its bikes , hypermotard included, this does make them awkward at low speed, a simple change to a 14 tooth front sprocket transforms them completely and I’d wager this could be true for these two bikes too.

my Diavel hates being below 3k. To ride it you have to pretend it is an IL4 (it has taken me 10 years to realise this), knock it down one gear from where you think it should be, and rev the bollocks off it.
Not on mine, at 2k through towns it's happy as Larry and pulls well even from there. After the 690 it's been nice to roll around in 3rd or 4th at 2k with not a worry and not even need to knock it down coming out the village on the other side  I'm not an IL4 fan boy but I'm definitely not a hater either. If anything I've noticed a lot of other engine configurations are becoming more IL4 like in delivery. The difference between the traditional single experience with the Duke II 640 engine and the all top endy Duke IV 690 was chalk and cheese. Several parallel twins are like this now too, all free reving with more power up top.
But that's a KTM, right?
My 950 SM never had low down grunt issues, neither did my Buell M2 or GSA 1150
My Triumph 1200 Scrambler is all low down grunt
Yeah my 690 Duke was a KTM but that you couldn't ride below 3.5k as it'd become a jack hammer, it had decent midrange but for a single really rev'd and would take off in the top end. The GSXS is silky smooth everywhere but that's IL4s for you.

Fwiw I really like the look of the Desert X.

I've made a lot of rational vehicle purchases but the best ones have been where I just followed my heart and got what I really wanted.

@Potter, are you set on a off road/motard style bike? If you struggle with the seat hight a bit, would anotgher road bike not suit you better? Another MV would be good, even if just for us as a bit of eye candy! What about a Striple or a MT09 SP?

Sir maybe needs to try an Aprilia Tuono RSV4 Factory. That's an engine.

It does somewhat baffle me that there's no market for a stonking 120bhp fairly light fairly torquey Supermoto style bike... I can't see how it wouldn't sell well. Something like an 890R based Supermoto... Fuck that'd have to be an absolute blast wouldn't it ?

How many Aprilia Dosduoros did Aprilia sell?
The trouble is a 120bhp bike ends up being a bit weighty, and who wants a tall, heavy bike apart from the weirdos that ride "adventure" bikes?

It's a start point... but a bit bulky, a bit lacking in styling... but sure, it's sorta there.

That for me is right in the ball park.

990 is FI too, 950 is Carbs.

As to what it does better, just more leg room and different riding position really. It's a fairly similar thing in many ways in terms of engine. But longer travel on forks, higher riding position, more SM than street.

1.Weave at high(ish) speeds.
2. Look better ( debatable)

That's the full list I think.....

If I were in the market for a new bike at the moment , that is exactly the place my money would be going 8-)

It's defo not a Potter ( ;) ) sort of bike though IMO

There is a cracking deal on them here ATM too-
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115575702367 ... R6qP2eKmYQ

- probably wouldn't lose any significant money on it selling 12 months later

I'm glad that deal is nowhere close to me,it would be terribly rude to miss that one.
