Post by Taipan »

Anyone changed ownership details online with DVLA recently? Just wondering how long its now taking to get V5s through?

Bought and sold four bikes last month within our household, sorted the change of keeper online and in all cases (2x new V5C and 2x confirmation of change of keeper) was here within a week.

Less than a week if the transfer is done online, based on my fallible memory. VED refunds take a bit longer. New vehicle registration took six weeks or so.

Less than a week and I had the new V5C for the K1200R. The refund on the tax for the Honda was two weeks. All easy and the online side gives you an email etc as proof

My postal application took over 6 months! Bought my sh300 in February and the V5 didn't arrive. After 2-3 weeks I contacted the owner and he swore he'd posted it the next day after I bought it, so I sent in a v62 and finally got the logbook a week or two ago!

I was told online applications are automated and much quicker and was just checking that is still the case, which it looks like it is. Thanks everyone.

I had a SORN refund fairly promptly, just a few weeks ago.

I did online for the camper on Friday last week, V5 arrived yesterday.
The other side of the coin, sent off a V62 for the Scoot in March, sold it in August and after a row they sent me a refund of the £25 a week ago. New owner V62 sent on Aug 17th, still not cashed the cheque!!!
DVLA are not being very good with paper stuff but online is faster than I’ve experienced before.

When I put the private reg on the BM and put the GPz into my name, it was about 3 days.

I think anything handled electronically works really quite well and quickly. Anything that is paper based can be a nightmare. I applied for one of my Austin Allegros to have 'historic status'. I submitted my V5 at the post office with the relevant forms on 5th March 2020 (that was good timing!) Just last week I spent an hour on the phone to DVLA (for long enough their phone lines were off the hook) and now I finally have the 'historic' V5. Even then it was really down to the individual who answered the phone - she was diligent and chased down all the relevant paperwork and resolved the matter all while I was on the line.

FYI, sent a postal application off on the 21st of September and got the new V5 back today. Looks like DVLA is back to (DVLA) normal again.

From another board:

Yesterday afternoon I had cause to contact the DVLA by email. It is 0830 this morning and I have just received the answer to my query. I am truly amazed,

From the other side - I got a letter confirming transfer after about a week, and the cheque for the remaining tax refund not long after.

Just tried to tax the corsa. Cant do it online as previous lost the V5. V62 now needs previous postcode. Previous owner has no idea what that is, due to the van being his, then his wifes, then his exwifes, then his kid who doesnt drive took a shine to it... etc. He offered 4 postcodes, none correct. Now I have to send off the V62 without, wait for it to come back, then I can tax it. I cant tell you what a colossal pain in the arse that is..
