Cannondale Bad boy

Post by formula400 »

Right so I’ve been commuting on a 10 year old Giant R1 escape and fancy an upgrade (not sure what the wife will say)

I’ve always fancied a Cannondale Bad boy, £700.
My commute is 8 miles of pure london roads. With a few pot holes.

Or should I look at????? Some thing with the Curley handle bars????

Cheers

I've always liked them for that riding. They still doing belt drive ones? Or was it hub gears they did?

They have the belt drive but it’s almost double the price

The only answer that I can give you that is correct is you obviously need one of those AND something with the curley handle bars.

Lol, I’ve got a new MTB coming, pushing my luck with a new road bike, let alone 2, could keep them in the garage and she won’t see. Plus they’d all to be black so I could blag there all the same bike

Honestly, a former work colleague did similar once. Bought yet another bike, and put it at the back of the shed so when his wife finally spotted it it had enough shed dust and cobwebs on it to convince her he'd had it for ages, and it was "that black one, remember"

TBH - it just a hybrid bike but well marketed. Really really wanted one about 6 or so years ago. Bought a Cotic Road Rat instead. And don’t use that much either!
Obviously if it fits your needs and is at the right price then buy one but they did look over priced for what they were ...

Agreed with Moofo. £700 and the drivetrain you get for that. I'd spend half on a Carrera Subway 2 if it's just going to get dirty or stolen, but, well - lefty forks are OP.

Not going to lie it’s purely on looks. Love it

But I’ve been reading and quite a few cycle mags and forums and they say a hybrid over a pure road bike because of the abuse daily commuting does, and they seem to hold up better

This has got good reviews

Anything else to look at??

Finding a new bike in stock is going to be your problem. Think there's none of that decathalon in stock.

I'd take my £500 and see what it gets me on eBay. If it's for getting dirty commuting I'd want the least appealing so-won't-get-nicked as possible.

£450 gets you a Whyte! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Whyte-Caledo ... Sw0otfU6yt

Nowt wrong with it, it's a tool for a job, CUBE make decent bikes... but nothing stands out over a Giant, PlanetX, Specialized of the same price.

If you like it, it's perfectly decent.

budget in simple terms. Nowt wrong with cables on road bikes... work perfectly well.

It's one of them things of "save £20 here, put £20 there.." so the wheels/tyres/mech may be better than a comparable bike, but that will have better brakes.

Why buy a new bike the same as everyone elses?

London's full of really good s/h bike shops, some do really nice rebuilds/custom jobs.

Have a look at:
The Hackney Pedller
Brixton Cycles
Rogers bikes

to name but three

So still look and deciding,

Added the cube Attain SL to the list

https://www.rutlandcycling.com/bikes/ro ... red_486271

And also the Giant Contend

One of the SL’s or AR

https://www.rutlandcycling.com/bikes/ro ... ack_486412

https://www.rutlandcycling.com/bikes/ro ... ete_486323

There is giant dealer in Camden so going to go there and have a chat and see if I can ride something.
