I wonder how much of pricing variations is decided (whether headline cost or permitted discounts*) by the manufacturers on a country by country basis? If those two were substantially undercutting other German outlets, then that would seem odd. Or is it profiteering by UK sellers? [Although that's difficult if you're not selling stuff]
I know how much the mark up was as friends stocked Rukka in their bike shop and when I got married they let me have a full Rukka jacket and trousers at cost price as a wedding present ….. compared to the RRP it was half so a considerable mark up on what was, at the time, 800 quids worth of kit to the paying punter. Ze German places were selling the same suit for about 150 less. My friends were told not to discount the Rukka stuff by the UK importers as they wanted the price kept uniform across the UK. The only time they were allowed to discount was once the item was “last years design”

I've got a mate that has money in that IIRC.
And he also said he was chucking a big chunk into another old car brand because they're going to make/convert electric cars, I can't remember which brand, I have Austin Healey in my head but maybe not. I thought it sounded a bit risky but he's minted and thought it was worth a punt.

I'm not totally despondent about the private equity thing. Companies need cash and it used to be they were 'owned' by the banks (who had absolutely no interest in product, ethos, market sector etc etc, just whether their loans were being repaid). The equity outfit that owns Didrikson is Swedish, the one that owns Morgan is Italian and several of them specialise in particular sectors and don't always trash a brand - even Pentland Group hasn't totally trashed Berghaus (interesting read on Wikipedia for anyone interested in this sort of thing, Alan Hinkes was an employee), I lived in Newcastle and bought stuff from their first shop, LD Mountain Centre). Also, if people put their heart and soul into something for years and build something successful , well  if they want to cash out.

I just hope that individuals will still be able to have an idea, make something good for a particular market and build a company that lasts a generation or three before they cede control of it. I also like the idea that there's a 'right size' for a company and growth doesn't have to be just for the sake of it.

One of the the things I needed was waterproof overtrousers. I didn't buy them but I did touch a pair priced at £220  TBH I could have bought a £12.99 pair of 'boil-in-the-bag' ones from Screwfix but I wanted something that you can get on/off with your boots on.
I get RAF surplus goretex ones off eBay - cost about £20 last time I got some and they are superb.
Good tip, thanks. I got a pair of German Army ones with braces.

Not today but Saturday. Brilliant day with Dave Thorpe Honda off road centre near Minehead. Very wet, muddy, bruising and exhausting. What a great family day out - 2 sons, daughter, son-in-law et moi!

Up early. Wife to work, walked dog with daughter in the park, then took her to train station. Back home. Load dishwasher, about to join morning prayers, then will do some walks visiting parishioners and so on. Taking dog for a walk this PM and then fetching wife/daughter before heading back to Church to do Compline and then cleaning the church hall etc after 9.15pm.

Took Mrs. Gremlin to the minor injuries unit at our local hospital. After last weekends party she was walking around barefoot ( ) and, we think, trod on a piece of glass. She's been hobbling around and it's getting more painful, with a bit of pus coming from where we think the splinter is.

So she hobbles off to hospital yesterday, has an x-ray fairly live-o, but they then tell her it's about an eight hour wait. Place was pandemonium by all accounts, so she asked if she could come back when it was quieter, hence I dropped her back at 6am this morning.

But, no, being the NHS, they say a new x-ray has to be done, which it duly was. After reviewing it they said they couldn't do anything as it's quite deep with no visible exit route. Fracture clinic will contact her in due course, whatever that means in NHS terms.

Interestingly she said that this morning a young lad was bought in escorted by 10 police officers. Four went into the treatment room (crims get priority!) whilst the other six just hung around. I did have to wonder why 10 coppers are needed for one lad.

Or the baying mob who'd been waiting hours to be seen and have watched him waltz straight into a treatment room.

Most countries have private clinics where you just walk in and pay.
Sounds like a demand for them near you.

Was trying to find one yesterday but failed as I would have happily paid. We have private GP cover and AXA healthcare, but not sure if that would cover this as it sort falls between the two. Might give the GP a call later to see what they can suggest.

Edit - they said piss off and send her to A+E

I've got private health care here as the law says I must.
When I hit retirement age I can join their NHS which is fantastic.
