Alvaro Bautista “The Comeback”…….

Post by wull »

I was going to put this in the Phillip Island thread but it deserves its own.

For me it’s the race of the season, the sprint race on Sunday morning, we have to sit back and appreciate how good of a ride that was from Alvaro to go out on slicks from pole position whilst everyone was on wets or a mixture of front wet rear inter. There was someone else on slicks (can’t remember who) but they were starting from the back.

You can say he had the championship won and nothing to lose but for me it doesn’t take anything away from it.

What you didn’t see whilst watching it at the time was the huge moment he has on lap 5, big moment 😲

Anyway, enjoy!

That 'moment' on lap 5 was something else. He was noticeably more cautious the next time round...

Sometimes a gamble pays off. You need to be single minded to go against the majority of the grid, you'll either be very right or very wrong.

It's good to see the fight in Bautista,he'd won the championship,he didn't need to take a chance, just riding round for a finish would have done.

Not a patch on Ralf Waldman at Donington 2000. On the 250 on dry tyres he got lapped.
Then it started to dry.
We couldn't see but the commentator , Fred Clarke kept us up to date every lap.
He won in an amazing race.

I was chatting to Fred about it a few weeks ago after he announced his retirement.

Mate of mine was Bautista’s tyre man at Honda he said he was surprised he got enough heat in them to make the slicks work.
