Main Stealer rip offs

Post by IOU0 »

So just been nattering to a someone on FB who asked if £600 was a bit steep for a 6k service.
Apparently they were going to check the valves and everything, about 6 hours labour.
Thing is, his bike doesnt need valves doing at 6k, or 12 or 18.
According to the manufacturers handbook, its a check plugs, synch throttle, change oil (not filter), usual visual checks, lube pivot points and go.
Not exactly 6 hrs labour!

Are you implying that a dealer would be so dishonourable as to over charge for a basic service? And charge for work not done?

Surely not.

When RiDE was still doing something akin to investigative journalism, they had an annual 'best dealer' item, where they took a carefully doctored bike in for a service, then checked what had been done against what was billed.

Wasn't unusual to find that the valves hadn't been touched, but were billed for. Not unknown for oil filters to be 'forgotten' too, just a quick clean-up to make 'em look new.

It's a sad state of affairs but I wouldn't trust most dealers to do a half-decent job. I've always used independents whenever possible. But I'm struggling to find someone up in NW London.

I have one of they too, my 2nd, and the dealer I use has always been spot on. Tell him to find another dealer...
