IoM CBT?

Post by Horse »

When Williams arrived at the preliminary road-fitness test in Douglas, the Isle of Man, 20 minutes from his home, the instructor was “rather shocked” to hear his age. “He was very worried,” Williams says. “He had a concept of a 70-year-old as well, so I had to shatter that for a start.”

After an hour, Williams was out on the road.

Ok, two questions:

'No CBT then? What about now?'

Reading through the article he sat his test after 5 months (of training i assume)

According to the IOM Gov website there is a CBT requirement as well as a theory test but looks like there is a single practical test rather than the Mod 1 and Mod 2 test over here. They also list all 3, yes 3, CBT Instructors on the island ;)

I've done thousands of the buggers. A good way to fry your brain, teaching CBT day in, day out.

I suspect I'd fail if I did one, tbh I've no idea what's involved, I did the old ride round the block test.

We had someone turn up at the school on an immaculate Z1 to do a CBT. Raised eyebrows all round.

Turned out he'd been riding around the Marsh for 30-odd years and had never got round to taking his bike test. A mate of his had got nicked for no licence a week or so earlier and he thought he'd put in to do his.

He lasted about 40 mins - to about the point where I was saying "and this is the ignition switch and you put the key in, and turn it". He said "bugger this, I'm off", stormed out of the classroom, grabbed his kit and rode off!

:)
