Had one as a loaner a few months back, not sure which year model it was. TBH I didn't get on with it, at low revs it is pretty gutless, give it some beans and it GLF but it was a noisy beast too, and cruising at 70-80 for a long trip would do my head in. I actually preferred my 500F.
As a track day weapon it would probably be fine, but I wouldn't swap it for mine on a long trip

I had a look at a few of them before I bought my Suzuki, the ones I looked at all had corrosion on the disc centres and the rear shock, but that one looks nice, I think they're expensive for the spec.

@Le_Fromage_Grande When you say expensive for the spec, keep in mind you're comparing it with a class full of 2 and maybe 3 cylinder bikes and those extra cylinders have to be paid for. Be interested what spec you reckon the Honda is missing, though, and compared to what as it's £2k cheaper new than the RS660.
Corrosion on the disc centres? It's a non-issue IMHO.

I'm not buying another taut streetfighter bike anytime soon, but offer me a CB650R with SUV suspension for the same money, and I might.
NGL, do the same with yours and I'd have a tough choice. I'd still leave the showroom with the Honda because I think it looks prettier.
NB: Admittedly the Honda was playing catchup, but since 2021, they both have traction control.

I thought the Honda would be ideal for what I wanted, a modern sports tourer with about 90bhp, but the ones I looked at were expensive and in less than perfect condition, I'd have looked at more of them to try and find a good one, but I saw the Suzuki and thought "I want it" so I bought it, it was an impulse buy, my brain had decided CBR, my heart went with GSX.

Really liked mine, typical Honda really easy to ride fast. Condition is down to the owner but mine was built very well.

I think it's more down to the kind of rider they're aimed at, as I've said before - budget bikes are aimed at either novices who rarely look after a bike well, or people who want cheap transport and don't care what it looks like. The problem is more that the lack of cosmetic care isn't reflected in resale prices and dealers can't be arsed to shift what is often a bit of superficial corrosion to make the bike look more presentable.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 11:44 am

I got back on the Hornet after a few months on the XJ6 (which has surprisingly low gearing in 1st) and promptly stalled the Honda

I have a 2021 model and it's a great bike. Really well sorted for road riding, plenty powerful enough, sounds good and has Honda reliability. When I went to On Yer Bike a while back I reckon about half the 2-3 year old bikes were in a bit of a state corrosion wise. I wonder if for some people you PCP it don't really care about it and chop it in for a new one in 2 years time. There was loads of corroded bolts, discs, exhausts etc. Looked like lot of people clean the bodywork and stop there. These weren't high mileage bikes either. I reckon it's the odd winter ride without washing it does for them.

There's a hefty section of riders who come from a background of car ownership and neither know nor care how to look after a bike cosmetically. Most cars get the bodywork and wheels hit with a generic degreaser which on a bike,leaves all the other parts stripped of any protection and ready for salt corrosion. Not a great deal, other than Showa big piston forks, which improved the handling a lot and the digital screen was moved back to handle glare better. Less oil in the engine as well.
I'm Weekysesc when it comes to keeping my stuff in good nick. My Vespa and my umpteen bicycles are also well cared for. Part of the fun of ownership for me.
