Yep 100%. Really don't see the likes of XR3i's, RS Turbos etc being a classic but Mk1 and Mk2 AVO and RS cars are.
Big regret of mine was selling my Mk2 RS2000, GOO 625T, sat in a lock-up/barn somewhere still now.....

That was the era when I was selling cars. XR3s used to out handle the Golfs but were slower. XR4 and 3.0/2.8 capris were great fun and quicker than the others, but I'd still take the RS every time, even over the RS turbo when it came out. Great days and we had some mad racing in the Essex countryside!

Yep, as a fellow Essex yoof I spent much time at Southend seafront.
I sold my RS2000 around 1991 to buy a nearly new S2 RS Turbo - fool! Also purchased a new Fiesta RS1800 in 1995.

I take a particularly petty and small minded joy in pulling up right on the dashed double white lines at give way near my house, thus forcing other drivers to actually stay on their side of the road.

Be careful with that. I have a local give way junction where doing it would lead to a colision sooner than later. The buggers come steaming along and cut the blind corner at close to 30mph

People here cut the left handers at light-controlled intersections. Most of them are two left turn lanes & three straight (for a total of eight lanes*). A lot of us stop about one car length short of the stop line in the left of the two turn lanes to prevent having the front left corner of the vehicle taken off by people cutting the corner.

* Someone is getting a pay off by changing the right lane to a cycle lane. So far we have about 180 miles of cycle lanes in the town. I've lived here for 27 years & in all that time have seen fewer than 50 cyclists in total. No fucker is riding a bike anywhere in 100+ temps...
Of all the cyclists I've seen, only three were using a cycle lane & they were riding together, that was a couple of years back.
I got into it with the mayor on line where he admitted that the cycle lanes were nothing to do with safety for cyclists, but are actually "traffic calming measures" which are intended to impede the flow of traffic. This causes more traffic on the roads at any time as it takes longer to get anywhere owing to congestion, also increases pollution & wear & tear on the vehicles. The mayor didn't like having that pointed out to him & deleted the entire conversation... but not before I got a screen shot of it

My mate at my first job had a Capri. He'd spent a fair bit on the cosmetics and respray, including a huuuuuge Cosworth-style spoiler on the back. I do suspect it was more for the look than function, as he once confided that he drove around with a big, heavy toolbox in the boot to stop the back end from going wayward.

I discovered, to my expense, that the best way to cure the hankering for cars of our youth, is to go and bloody buy one. Those rose-tinted specs soon fall off.

The only Ford I've owned was a Focus, it was a really good car TBF.

You'd almost think that Ford put loads of effort and money into designing a modern, safe, nice handling car for the 21st century with the aim of changing some stereotypes

I nearly bought this last year on the way back from the pub one Sunday afternoon. I was walking past and I thought "nicely restored Capri" then the old chap started it up. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I walked back, it sounded like the world was coming to an end. V8 Chevvy, Holley headers, Edelbrock carb, cherry bombs. It was facking *immaculate* inside, outside, and underneath. Uprated suspension and brakes, it was beautiful. The old chap (who I vaguely knew by sight) had restored and built it, and now was selling it as he'd bought a Triumph Stag to fiddle with. 16 grand. I arranged to go and drive it/buy it the next day, and rushed home to tell my darling wife. Who gently explained to me why it was a bad idea. Actually she didn't, she thought it was a brilliant car (she's a worse petrol head than me) but pointed out some common sense facts. Namely..
8 mpg.
We don't have space in the garage for it, so it would live outside.
We live approx. 50 yards from the sea.
It's an 80s Ford.
I have a terrible track record of looking after things.
In two years it would be rusty and horrible and all my fault.

Unfortunately, when I sobered up I had to agree with her, so phoned and apologised

The latter. Designed by Ford mostly in Europe, Essex and Cologne.

The Focus and Mondeo were both big efforts by Ford to make really good modern cars and I'd say the succeeded on both fronts.
