First new big bike EVER!

Oil change today,up to 12k miles on the old girl now and still hugely enjoying the bike.

I had the opportunity to try out the Road 6s on patchy and fully damp roads. I have to say they are completely unfussed what you do,they just seem to grip and never once felt twitchy. There was no reaction when passing over a damp patch with a fair tilt on,or powering out of corners using more throttle than normally sensible in such conditions.

I know where I am with them now and I'm happy enough to recommend them.

This makes me happy as I have a set of RT wheels coming next week and I'm getting a pair of 6 fitted to them.

Mileage report on the rear Michelin Road 6 is fubared. I wheeled the bike out of the garage this morning and it didn't feel right. Further investigation revealed this. Not repairable as too close to the edge,so instead of heading out for a run,I had to load the wheel into the car and give the nice man £178. 3774 miles and I reckon another 500+ was possible,so not bad tyre life.

Still debating £330 fitted for some Roadtec 01 SEs or lump the Dunlops till next year. Can get some Road 4s for 275 fitted. Pro Tyre aren't listing Road 5s for some reason. Road 6s are silly money. I am tempted by some tyres though as I reckon they'll really improve the handling.

My tyre guy is a no go, called him yesterday and he's broken his back falling over at home!!

I spent ages trying to find someone who fits bike tyres to loose wheels and after lots of searching struck gold locally. I now buy tyres where i like, normally FWR down in London who send them to me and take the wheels to a local bloke who charges me 5 quid a wheel as its a 5-10 minute job to him and he cant balance the wheels . He will pull off the wheel weights and give me some spare ones but i know how to balance them on the bike so all good

Havent tried PR6 but the Multistrada owners lot rave about them for wet grip but its a split between them and Pirelli Angel GT2 ....i have the GT2 which have done touring, commuting, off road and trackdays

Looked at them as well but like the PR6 they are over £300 for the tyres alone before fitting.

Some guys are sitting at 8k on the rear and barely squared off. I have no idea how that's done. I wouldn't get that mileage from a front!

I've seen on the GSXS forum that some people reckon they get 10, 12 even 15k miles out of tyres. No idea how. I've never got more than 5.5-6k out of a rear tyre and that's leaving them past there best.

Did a mpg check today,just for curiosity. 150 miles and it took 14 litres,so 3 litres left in reserve.

The bike appears to be doing 48mpg,which isn't at all bad,considering it's well short geared too.

Might get close to 200 miles to dry if you take it really easy and aren't of a nervous disposition.

I was riding at 60mph and below Sunday due to the puncture and got 58mpg! Bike at one point reckoned I had 177 miles range and I know I get more than it says usually.

Great empty roads today,so I banged in a couple of hundred miles to take it up to 16k and oil & filter change.

Ok then,time for a fuck up admission.

When I was lifting the bike in the wheelie position on the Abba Skylift I encountered a bit of resistance when operating the foot pump. I stopped and had a look around,but couldn't spot anything preventing the bike being lifted. With the wonderful gift of hindsight I should have stopped there,but I gave it another couple of pumps to see if I had imagined it....

What I failed to notice was the rear wheel had come in contact with the floor,so all the strain was being put through the swinging arm bobbin,which consequently tore itself off the swinger and will need welding on again. Most likely there will be heat damage in the course of the repair,so it'll need repainted too.

What.a.dickhead.

The swinger came out fairly easily and it'll give me the chance to lube the suspension bearings and swingarm pivot etc,while I'm in there.

So feel good about yourselves tonight,in the knowledge there are more stupid people out there...well,one anyway.

Off to the welders tomorrow.

PS Apologies to Weeksy for the dirt under the Ohlins. I promise it'll be sorted and all ACFed before assembly.
