I think I will go with your route from Ayr, looks good. @Beancounter Not decided which way from Moffat yet. I did the 708 3 years ago and was a great ride. We may decide that bit on the morning.

Looking at map (a favourite hobby of mine) I could go 701 up out of Moffat, then loop round and join up with 708 further along. Small road passed somewhere called Glenlude. I'm sure someone on here travelled this road a while back.

Plenty of time to meander.

Aye, that was me that did the road through Glenlude. You won't go wrong with the 701 to be fair. There's almost too much choice.

D&G is a hidden gem as far as most people are concerned, absolutely stunning place and some of the best roads in the UK for sure. Most English people just drive straight past it on their way to Glasgow or the Highlands. I absolutely adore D&G! Took my GF there for her birthday last year in the car, did the unoffical SW300 route but also looped up into the Forest Park a few times too. Took 3 days and did lots of stopping and taking photos.

Then at Easter this year, some mates were going on a trip of Northumberland and the borders, basing themselves from Hexham… I had a bike I was buying from just outside Ayr, so I caught the train up the night before, then picked the bike up the Friday morning, rode all through D&G’s best roads to Lockerbie, then through some of the Borders’ and Northumberlands best roads to meet them in Hexham that night, and joined them for the next day… What a weekend that was!!!

The wettest ride in my recent history....

Departed home at 9.30 am. Pissing down. M6 to Gretna Pissing down plus spray. Gretna to Castle Douglas A75 Pissing down. Castle Douglas to new Galloway A713 , raining but not quite Pissing down.

New Galloway to Newton Stewart 712 Pissing down and misty. Newton Stewart to Girvan 714 Pissing down but nice twisties. Up the coast to Ayr, Pissing down.

Currently in hotel with a beer drying stuff. Hopefully tomorrow it's drier.

Great day had, sunshine and no rain.. As @Beancounter said, out of Ayr on 713 to Carsphairn, Moniaive, Mennock pass, Leadhills and Elvanfoot. Then under M74 to the 701, up to Pebbles, Selkirk. A68 at St Boswells, Jedburgh and on to Hayden Bridge for the night.

In all honesty some of the best roads I've ever ridden. The scenery is superb. Pics...

The gs has been superb. Done everything well. Comfy, no chain lubing, plenty of go. Easy to chuck about and I can see why all the old buggers have them.

My mate has just bought some brand new Dainese gear, Absolute shite, got wet through...I wore richa over suit stuff and was drier.

720 very enjoyable miles done. Today's ride home was equally brilliant.

From Haydon Bridge to Alston to Middleton in Teesside to Brough to Kirkby Stephen to Thwaite to Hawes on the Buttertubs Pass. Don't look down to your left ffs.

Hawes to Ingleton to Lancaster M6 to home. More fantastic roads for biking. Anyone thinking of travelling up here, i highly recommend using some of these routes. You will not be disappointed.












2 of these flew over aswel. Zoom in and it's the ones with the props that turn for vertical take off apparently.
