I had one on the Cappuccino. It was G20 and the previous owner's initials. It didn't make me a better person.

(Or a better driver.)

Wouldn’t buy one (although Mrs Nidge has) however, and completely coincidentally, my T140 reg has the first line NGL and the numbers form my birthdate and month . I saw it as an omen to buy the bike rather than a personal plate

If I could find (and afford) DRU 1D I still wouldn't buy it.

I think if you get something funky then they can be cool. But lots of people have their initials etc which mean nothing to most people so why bother. My mates brother was a bookie and had some good plates. Can't remember exactly how they were done but read something like
B16 0DDS
HU55LER
V8 CHEV

I see a KNUT on my way to work which makes me smile.

I'm pretty sure I've seen that.

There's one that turns up at BHR race meetings with B16 VAN

Being as the DVLA won't re;ease certain combinations of letters and numbers there must be a department that vets and decides which ones.

How do they recruit the people to do it? Must have a puerile sense of humour, be good at anagrams and easily offended.

Are you "darn sarf"? as that used to be on a RR Sport (of course) that one of our sub-contractors ran so was in our car park occasionally. I can tell you he is a bell end.

My wife has one which I got for her on our anniversary many years ago. It's her lucky number and her initials.

I have one that my parents bought me on a special birthday and has that number and my initials on it (I did tell them that they'd need to update it every year as I got older) - it's also not actually on the latest car at the moment as I haven't got around to transferring it on.

I bought my son one for his birthday which is his initials and has G71 at the start. This is because he's a GTi fan (is on his third) and it cost me almost nothing to get DVLA to release it for auction. Unsurprisingly I was the only bidder!

They're fine. Some will have a meaning (like ours do) and others won't. It's really no big deal.

There's recruitment agent in the offices next door to Mrs D's place of work. There's often a Jag with the plate CV51 MON parked outside.

The jokes are always funny the first time you see em then they die. :D

Many years ago I bought a nice Audi TT. The previous owner had bought X5ATT for it.
I hated it. So sold it to one of them dealers for about £750.
Part of deal was that I could go onto to DVLA website and pick a suitable plate for the year.

My initials are CW. It was 05 car. Yoz is obvious

CW05YOZ made me happy and I had 750 beer tokens :)

It didn't look like a personal plate.

This was South Yorkshire, so probably false plates anyway :D

I suppose many of them are much like tattoos, in that they mean f all to anyone else. :)

True story,

A mate of mine bought a plate for his bike, F11 STY, and with some appropriately placed number plate screws he could make it look like FASTY. However, when the day came to fit his new number plate it transpired that the plate manufacturer and put the digits in the number '11' quite close together. So undeterred the bold boy promptly added the two black number plate screws and fitted the plate to his bike. He rode around for weeks with his new number plate, proud as punch he was, until someone pointed out to him that any further back than 3 yards his number plate definitely said FISTY.

Oh how we laughed, and he sold the number plate.

It certainly was, lots of photos posted on facebook.

However, they're from Yorkshire so don't be acknowledging them!
