Which is an awful webshite full of adverts, but mentions a new draft law that should have come in March 2022, where they're now allowed for motorcyclists.

Anyone know if this is the case, I only use them from Rider to Pillion comms and I'm probably going Spain in July?

Satnags with speed camera locations are illegal in Fronch.

In France it's sat navs which have live updates of mobile speed camera sites like Waze which you can get pinched for

Intercoms are illegal if they are in-ear jobbies.
Ours have the little speakers which are OK.
My pal and his wife got stopped a while ago. The cop didn't know the difference. He didn't get booked in the end.

They are if they warn of speed cameras. Big fines.
On our Garmin, it could be turned off.

this trip to spain we just went on made no references to the above and we had no trouble at all despite the press saying that we had to prove we wern't exporting the bikes no problem at all we just had a good time. just take your docs would be my advice.

I recall in France there was a rule about no wired headsets or things like wired headphones. When my sat nav packed up i had to run a single wire from my iphone into the helmet to hear the directions and both the gendarmes i saw at a petrol stop couldnt have cared less.

Like most places it probably depends on the copper you meet along the way how much they give a shit about the little things

Bit of a derail but......

I got stopped on the 690 yesterday in Biarritz. Clearly using my phone as a sat nav. Mr Gendarme didn't give it a second look.
He did however tell me that I should get a French license, I didn't want to try and explain to him that applications are not being accepted unless your current license has less than 6 months on it !

I live in Spain, and the DGT seem to change the rules on a whim. And then change them back again, such as making gloves compulsory for all riders from Jan this year. Also they were going to allow all riders to use the hard shoulder on main roads and motorways when traffic at a standstill, as they viewed as safer than filtering between lanes 1 and 2. Bikes under 50cc can use the hard shoulder on main roads at all times.

Across the ear headphones are fine, in-ear headphones and earbuds are not. I know of a couple of riders stopped by Traffico in Alicante for speeding. The officers saw that when one of them took his helmet off, he had earbuds in his ears. Was prosecuted for that as well as speeding.

If you want empty roads, head for Aragon which borders the Pyrenees. I often rode for 60 or 70 kms without seeing another vehicle. Low traffic means that road surfaces are good, and the roads are well maintained in most regions. Just be aware riding through remote villages mean no police, and so drink driving is fairly common. In bigger towns the police often set up road blocks to do drink drive stops.

The cops here are usually good towards bikers, just be polite and have your documents to hand in case you are stopped.
