The big white bus.
Well it's home. Garage is full, they are a big old lump. Dark and wet and about an hours ride. No further photos yet. First impressions, very soft seat, think its oem, not sure yet. Easy to ride but need some dry daylight to build confidence.
Lots of info on screen, need to gen up. Filled up with £ 1.48 unleaded, cheapest I've seen. It's got an after market screen which keeps your body dry but upper arms got wet through and I didn't have proper waterproofs on. ☹
Pulls well but maybe a bit vibey in places. Nav 5 is ace and I set it to speedo, nice big numbers, easy to read. Still a bit of dive on front brake but not sure how it's set. Felt happy in the corners, though going steady.
Think I'm happy.

YAY!
The display is customisable.
If you've not got the handbook, you can view it on the BMW webshite.
The NAV integration is pretty cool (I've seen it working on a friends bike), the 'wonder wheel' works pretty well.

We should ask Weeksy for a secret sub forum, like the Bumming one, but for people who reek of piss.

I Think IanB already asked for this; not Bus Wankers, but "GS Wankers"KungFooBob wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 9:17 pm We should ask Weeksy for a secret sub forum, like the Bumming one, but for people who reek of piss.

Re: The big white bus.
He says I can't use my normal old optimate, I need a canbus one for bmws or summot.
What's that.
What's that.

Re: The big white bus.
If you want to charge it via the Hella/DIN socket, you need a CANBUS one. The ECU turns the socket off after a couple of minutes of the ignition being turned off.
I can't think of any issues charging the battery directly via an optimate cable wired to the battery terminals.

I've got the old optimate lead, square and round. He said it would damage the electrics and don't use it. I need a canbus one to trickle charge battery on bike.

Re: The big white bus.
I'm not 100%.
But if you want to charge it, the battery is behind the right hand side panel under the seat.
If you're worried, disconnect it from the bike and charge it with the optimate.
Don't go on the UKGSER forum, they're all miserable argumentative bastards.

Re: The big white bus.
Just reading up on Internet. Seems this can bus thing is for trickle charging through aux socket outlet. So maybe I'm OK to do it the old fashioned way, directly to battery.

Re: The big white bus.
You absolutely are- when I bought the Multi, the dealer tried to flog me a CANBus compatible charger saying exactly what you were told by your seller by the sound of it- I ignored him and just put the usual £5 square plug lead onto the battery terminals when I got home, nothing exploded and we have all lived happily ever after.Dodgy knees wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 10:27 pm Just reading up on Internet. P.S.- Congrats on the bike (very ) old man- have you booked your IAM assessment and bought that flip-up lid yet?

Re: The big white bus.
Nice little ride in the Shropshire sunshine this morning with the gs. In all honesty it was superb. Proper armchair biking, most comfortable bike I've ever had. Goes very well around corners, feels solid with no dodgy bouncing. Overtaking is a breeze, plenty enough go. 55mpg and over 200 to a tank. My mates adv does well over 300.
Lovely note from the exhaust, display is great, plenty of info, maybe without the nav 5 the speedo could be slightly difficult for quick glancing, analogue. Tyre pressure, temperatures, range, it got the lot.
Weakest bit for me is clutch. Seems to engage on a very small release, I'd rather more clearance, iykwim. 150 miles of layed back riding.
Never got pic's with having my mate with me but took a couple before ride. So far, so good. Happy chap.

What tyres are they? How did you get on with the linked brakes?
