Update, very unlike me this was an impulse buy, i usually take months to decide a purchase.
The bike had no paperwork and still had its German number plate, so i need to get it registered before could do any work.

The bike had no paperwork and still had its German number plate, so i need to get it registered before could do any work.
First i contacted Inland Revenue about a Nova cert, they were very helpful and sent me the form advising me to include a dating cert and covering letter explaining the bike was in the UK when purchased.
Next i contacted the MZ club and after a few Emails they sent someone round to view the bike. A week later the Date cert arrived.
The Nova form was sent with Date cert and covering letter and a couple of weeks later a Nova Cert arrived.
M.O.T next, the bike was in good condition and after inspection just needed a headlight bulb and new horn. I trailered the bike to the M.O.T station were the owner laughed and said it was awful. Still passed the M.O.T though.
Next i downloaded the registration form from the DVLA , it looks quite daunting at first , full of questions about emissions, weight and measures ect.
After some research I found most questions relate to new vehicles and all i needed was the basics, Colour, Make Model etc. very simple.
So the Registration form, Nova, M.O.T, Date cert, a few photo's and a covering letter were sent to the DVLA.
Three weeks later and the Registration Cert arrived, the Troll is now CBU 820B.

Does it actually need an MOT? Is that part of the first registration process...'cause I don't think it'll need one ever again?

First registered 1st of January 1964.
As for the MOT with it being over 40 years old it should be exempt but you have to apply for it to be exempt. I wonder if this mot was purely because of the registration process, because I’m thinking until you actually apply for the exemption an mot will be required every year.

MOT was needed for registration but now it is classed Historic so exempt.
Strip down started, all came apart really easy.
I had intended to paint the Chassis myself but because of the shape it will be better powder coated.
I dropped off the Frame, Fork and Swing Arms to the powder coaters this week and started the engine strip.

The small indy bike shop I get all my MOT's done at have a Trophy in. They've had it for a couple of years and three times a year (when I get my MOT's) I threaten to buy it.
Very similar styling, which I think is pretty cool.

Had the engine stripped and all bearings have been changed.
Fitted a later upgrade primary chain, new clutch and piston rings.
Generally, the engine looked quite good, and I could have got away with just leaving it as found.
Shocks are rebuildable so just a strip and rebuild with new oil

Fantastic job, and all the bits were in surprisingly good nick. It's clearly been looked after during its life, but the refresh/rebuild you're doing will bring it back to as new. At first it all looks completely wrong, but it's actually very well designed and (best of all) simple. It's a triumph of function over form.
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.
