Quite a lot more hornets around here this year, there's usually a couple hovering around the cat food stations. The reason there's more around is because of a reduction in the bee population following last year's wild fires.

This year, the bee keepers moved most of the hives inland to the Afyon area because of the threat of more fires. Quite a lot of colonies were lost last year.

Apparently, higher bee numbers keeps hornet numbers down.

That's an interesting one. They don't compete for food as hornets are mainly carnivores but, like common wasps, they'll go for sugary things like fallen fruit. They'll prey on honey bees but my bee keeping neighbour says they're not a problem. Don't see many and had never seen one in the UK until the last few years...the first one was a shock, they're like the 747 of the wasp world!

There are loads on my aunt's farm in Denmark...they're the equivalent of wasps for them, always hanging around your BBQ.

It's the sound which surprised me! Proper deep flapping father rather than a buzz.

Malaysian Beef Jerky, 95a Elizabeth Street NYC. I used to swap that for BIKE magazine with a Yank biker I knew from another forum many, many years ago. LOst touch with him, but when we went NYC in 2014 I found it. I looked it up tonight and its still going! Hopefully, I'll be there scoffing some of that again next year!

So what is Beef Jerky like. Last bag i was given it stank so a bit never passed my lips and the dog got it as tit bits. I will presume fresh and hot will be different than a bag of shite out Tesco

Very tasty. Some of it is nice and soft and easy to munch on, others are like sucking leather. In my experience jerky is softer/nicer than South African biltong.

I have memories of the Gremlinette gnawing a chunk of beef jerky for hours when she was about 2 years-old. It was jerky that made her vegetarianism collapse after nearly three years

I've been in a biltong shop in SA which had nigh-on any dead animal you could think of dried, spiced and hung, ready to be consumed. Lovely stuff.
