Amazon send me an email two or three days before the free trial ends. I was under the impression that was their standard practice.

I've gone right off Amazon tbh, Geoff Whathisface is inline to be the richest man on the planet but treated staff like shit when lockdown hit and avoids paying tax in the UK so fuck him. I know my account makes no difference to him but I think it's like voting ie my account makes no difference but 'you' can choose to be a part of the problem or a part of the solution !!??

I'm the oppposite, I love Amazon and its first port of call for everything! I only got a prime a/c as my kids bought me an Alexa and thought I'll suffer it for a year and then unsubscribe, but have now bought right into the Amazing way. If I can get it from them it saves me carrying it back from the supermarket!

I hate the Amazon website. Can't work out if I'm buying from them or 3rd party.
Always use eBay instead.

I’m in two minds. I need a new cordless drill. Called in to screwfix, queue out of the door, only allowing a couple of people in at a time, only one person serving.Taipan wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2020 10:56 am I'm the oppposite, I love Amazon and its first port of call for everything! Thought sod that, came home and looked on screwfixes website, it’s available on click and collect but not for home delivery. Looked on amazon and can get it delivered first thing tomorrow.
I try and give other sellers opportunities as I hate to think that in 5 years time all we will have will be amazon, but they make it difficult and amazon make it so easy.
Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
Yeah, I got caught signing up to Amazon Prime by mistake.
I placed an order and I had a screen with 2 options "I want Prime" and "I want to pay for delivery" so I chose the second option and as soon as I hit the button I noticed a small link at the bottom of the page "Continue without Prime" but it was too late. Both of the first 2 options were signing up to Prime. Regarding the second option, who in their right mind still wants to pay for delivery if they have Prime?
I did manage to cancel it, but at the time I had loveFilm (remember them?) and it somehow combined Prime with LoveFilm and cancelling Prime meant I lost my LoveFilm streaming option. I ended up joining up to Prime later anyway
I remember talking with a freind and he was saying that his Dad had got caught out signing up to Prime by mistake and then said "I don't know why anyone would have Prime as all my parcels come the next day anyway" I told him he's probably signed up to Prime without knowing and he was addamant he hadn't. I got a text from him later that evening saying he'd been paying for Prime without realising for months. Of course he blamed his other half

Finding my Surface Pro Pen in the dog’s mouth...
In fairness to the pooch, i probably knocked it off the table when clearing up for dinner and he subsequently found it on the floor. The tip is knackered so that’ll need replacing.

Having all most post finally forwarded and finding a speeding fine amongst it all....
doubly BMP is that the fine was in May and I'm now way too late for the €45 and the €68 and even the €180 version.
I've written a grovelling letter, citing covid and lockdown, but as I'm also too late to appeal, I'm not that optimistic

Available here and not expensive. I can get some for you and send them over if you want, it's not a problem.Yambo wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 7:32 pmIt may be available over the counter here DB. I'll stick my head in the chemist tomorrow and ask them. As far as things that boil my piss, well, I guess people who don't read pms could be on the list. Yeah, yeah, I know, they could be doing other, more important things. Just as I could.

118 directory enquiry numbers
£2.50 per call plus 75p a minute, with a minimum charge of 1 minute AND your phone operators charges.
WHO THE FIDDLESTICKS is using these services ? Are they stupid, have they not heard of google, or yell ?? Are they trying to rinse through money in some sort of Brewsters Millions* parody ?

It is for wives that don't pay the phone bill and that don't read the small print. The best cure is to disconnect the house phone and give them a payg mobile that won't let them call those numbers.Jody wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 12:29 pm Not BMP or even winding me up but I am proper confused by it...

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
I'm in the office today, sat on the desk on my lonesome. I had a Skype message come through from a bloke who works for my place. I know him a bit, nice bloke, young family. He asked me what being a Mental Health First Aider entailed so I decided to Skype him and have a chat to see if he wanted to put his name forward. After a couple of minutes it dawned on me that his interest was feigned and he wanted to talk to me about something. I had a hunch something wasn't right as he was stammering quite noticeably, whereas usually it's barely there.
I asked him outright if he was ok and it was then that he welled up, told me has suffered depression and anxiety issues for years, was on anti-depressants and was having real issues with a project he'd been tasked with and he was stressing over his relationship with his manager. Bit of a bolt from the blue.
We chatted for a while, I listened, tried to help him put things into context and advised his to take the discussion with manager, explain his condition, ensure he had the right support. I told him to do it sooner rather than later, not to stew over the weekend. He said he would.
A couple of hours later he Skypes me back, explained he had the conversation and his manager had told him he needed to work harder and any failure to deliver the project would reflect badly on him. FFS, seriously? As a manager, if somebody had had the the balls to come to me and say, 'I need to speak to you, I have these issues and I need some support at this time' I'd have applauded them for being proactive. Here's a bloke who has laid his cards out, been totally honest and he gets a kick in the bollocks for his candour.
I took off my MHFA hat and advised his to respond via email and ask to have a face-to-face with HR involved.

Sounds like the manager is at breaking point too.

Maybe. I know the manager, albeit not well. She is from eastern Europe and I do wonder if it's a cultural issue around how mental health is viewed. We actually share the same 'big boss' and I know he would be very sympathetic and supportive.

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
In this day n age she should be up to speed.
When I had my mini wobble a year or so back my manager at the time didn't know what to do except send me home for the day, which inevitable went on to lead to a bigger wobble later down the line, at which point I went and got things started for myself.
Meh, she's only a kid and I don't hold her any grudge, but she still beats herself up about it, I'm more peeved that my emails to HR for help went unanswered and weren't followed up.
For all that's said I don't reckon we live in such enlightened times as we'd like to think.

Sadly, Some not very good mangers see a cry for help as an excuse to skive, In my experience.
I work with someone who would have reacted the same as your example. He has little in the way of interpersonal skills so can’t connect with anyone.
I had a major wobble when my marriage ended, my manager was fantastic, even with me in tears. I’ve since found out he maintained my privacy, offered support and did everything right.
Can’t suggest anything to help, maybe your subject needs to visit a doctor, just sometimes drugs can help to calm the situation and see things in a different perspective.
Mick.
