New Bike!!!

Bought myself a new bike. Triumph Sprint ST 1050. Been without since September last year, apart from a brief attempt at being a scooter rider, which didn’t work!!!! Needs a few bits sorting so that’s this weeks other job.

I've got one too, just the newer model with the GT front fairing.
I loved it until the stator took a dump on monday morning, common fault along with the reg/rec.

Tart it up, tidy the bits that need tidying, probably a track day as I’ve never done that. When’s next years Event planned for???
I would tour but with the camper I may buy a trailer to take it with us instead.

Always liked the look, if I was still going to tour it would have been the GT. bit of a Triumph fan tbh, I have heard about the reg/rec problem, still playing and planning what needs doing so that will go on the list I guess!!
First ride today, loved it, lots of go, needs some bar risers though to suit me better I think.

I love the engine - I've had a T595 and a 955i previously.
I did look at GT's but they really are a big bike, much longer wheelbase than the ST and heavier too. I only use mine to ride to the railway station and a little bit of fun, so suits the purpose brilliantly.

Plenty of info on the 'net about the issues - reg/rec, stator, shock linkages etc. but no worse than most others.....

Edit: later bikes had bar risers as stock so easy to get hold of....

When I went to the SoF on my Blade with a mate on his SV there was a camper van parked next to the static caravan we'd hired. It had Dutch plates and had a ZX9 on the back and I distinctly remember thinking as I exited the van on morning 1 walking like John Wayne and feeling like I'd done 10 rounds in the showers at Rykers Island that in the words of Dire Straights "That's the way to do it'"

So, campervan comes next week, can’t wait!! Tow bar sourced, just looking for a trailer now.

Started sorting the bike in the week so the first problem is the back end. Need to replace the indicators so managed to snap the 3 bolts that hold the plastic tail on. Today’s job is drilling them out ready to fit the used bits I got from eBay.
Next job is pannier rails, again eBay parts. Hopefully they will arrive today or Monday. Bolts are coming out nicely and a nut and bolt will replace them. May have to remove the exhaust to do it properly.
Must admit, I love looking at it, nice shape, under seat pipes look brilliant, bar risers next, then get rid of the cheap nasty looking front footrests.

Off for more drilling now the battery has charged back up.

Re the van: is it worth upping the weight capacity of the van (if possible) and adding a hydraulic carrier at the back, instead of using a trailer?
Trailers are a pain in parking sites and too easy to nick.

The bike was parked outside, not hooked up to a trickle charger and mainly used for a 5 mile e/w commute which in fairness kills batteries but my piece-of-shit TDM850(2) was used in the same conditions the only thing that didn't go wrong was the battery.

I’m looking at the possibility of putting a bike in the back, under the bed, not sure if it will work yet until I see how much space I’ve got. The trailer is a quick, easy and cheap option. Met a French couple in Rennes on a campsite a couple of years ago who had a Deauville on a trailer. They had a camper previously with bike storage under the bed, the problem they encountered was bike smells, she wife didn’t like it!!!

Need to watch the overhang weight limits. Most folk only put a light 125 in the camper itself.
