BMW F900R Cup

Post by ChrisW »

Just happened across this - it's for a one make series supporting BSB next year.

It's a shame BMW can't make the road going version look more like this - I'd be quite tempted if they did.

Perhaps they will. They did a road version of the Boxer Cup bikes.

These BoxerCup Replika bikes really look the business in the BMW M-style red-white-blue paint complete with sponsor contingency decals on the belly pan, which is also a race spec oil catch pan. Every Replika came with a factory provided Laser brand freer flowing exhaust system, factory tweaked ECM chip with more aggressive tune, and Ohlins shocks. The suspension was also modified by BMW for more ground clearance and lean angle, and they also applied carbon fiber sliders to the cylinder heads, for when you do eventually touch down.
Even bland can be a type of character

They don't get especially inspiring reviews as road bikes. Most reviewers prefer the XR.

I imagine this is to try and boost sales, shame it's at the expense of the Tri-Options Cup.

The Boxer Cup bike was unmistakeably a BMW, this F900R could be any other bike just wearing red/white/blue.

I'm out.

FHO have entered a bike, piloted by Richard Cooper.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. FHO are a big team in the paddock with lots of cash and Cooper has been a mainstay of BSB for ever and is a two time Superstock champion.

I know it's not club racing at National level, but I thought the idea was the bike package is 'cheaper' than a BSB/Superstock to get more fresh talent into these events.

If he doesn't win it by a country mile I'll eat my (small) hat (made of chocolate).

I thought the same but tbh if you are an up and coming rider and you can’t beat Cooper then there’s no point going much further. Cooper is obviously mega fast and a super stock champion but you’ll need to beat him and others like him to make it higher up. Doing it on equal bikes will make people take notice.

I noticed a couple other names in the entry list as well such as Dom Herbertson and of course 44 teeth’s own Al Fagan

Heard that the old stager Michael Rutter is doing the first couple of rounds as well as practise for his roads season ;)

Bollox. It's a series for up and coming riders.
Not for the Bertie Bollocks riders to get some free prize money.

Imagine Richard Cooper whining if a WSB rider dropped into National Superstock and made him look very silly.

Didn't Cooper come up through a BMW class like this ? That's how he made his name isn't it ? So i can potentially see a bit of nostalgia for him in there.

Same as rhe old Ducati Tri-options went wasn't it? Entry level'ish that then filled with journeymen.
Guy I know raced in it for the True Hero's Racing when it started but then all got a bit too serious....
