Try a rottweiler with an elastic band round its knob and bollocks......keeps it awake and angry all at the same time just ready for night time visitors ;)

Happy New Bike day

Look forward to having a proper look next week-end- mine's in bits at the moment for some ( repeat/more  ) minor fettling, but will be fighting fit again in good time for our next outing , am looking forward to it (as I imagine you are too :D )
Counting the hours down, mate, can't wait.

The RAM mount for the garmin has arrived, got another one of those 24MX bags for the rear mudguard to fit, some other bits and bobs and we're good to go.

Bought with:
Hours 76.6
Miles 2199
Got a long day out with the jolly boys on the 20th so I decided that a shake down ride was in order. A phone call to a local mate and a short scoot around some local trails was arranged for Sat pm.
Nearly over before it started, went to do a small wheelie off the pavement by the house, 350 level throttle blip equals near instant vertical on the 500, shut throttle and nearly head butt the bars. Oops, dickhead. Got a bit of adjustment to do.
Ride was great fun, nothing technical, just lots of long trails, a mixture of double track and a singletrack woods paths. The bike handles well, suspension is plush and compliant and turns easily. As you’d expect with a 500 there’s loads of low down oomph with plenty of mid range. That’s the good bit.
Now for the not so good. The back tyre is crap, at first, I thought it was clutch slip, nope just spinning up the rear once the top end kicks in. While we’re on the subject, the clutch is typical KTM off-road, drags and makes neutral near impossible to find. The motor rattles under load at low revs then quietens out with more revs, sounds like the cam chain is rattling against the casing.
According to the internet 500 motors are noisy.

Lol you're not filling me with inspiration!

I never ever ever start the KTM without ear plugs in.

Hours 79.9
Miles 2269

Had some time spare today so decided to do a bit of investigating.

Cam cover off and check the valve clearances, a long way out and cam chain tensioner is quite far out. Got to order a shim kit so I can do the clearances. Will check on whether I can get a camchain with a joining link.

Checked out the clutch and all is good in there, very minimal notching of the basket, just a typical KTM clutch.

Bike is still a mystery, parts seem well worn, other bits nearly new.

Just a little update here for anyone who knows @crust and / or wants to wish him well- the old boy had an off and a quite heavy fall with his new bike landing on him too on our outing at the weekend ,which unfortunately resulted in him snapping the top of his right femur off.
I'll let the old boy fill in details as he sees fit on his return, but suffice to say, where we were (at the bottom of Rocky Ruin near Petersfield for anyone who knows the lanes of the south) and the severity of the injury made recovery out of there quite interesting...

He's currently in The Royal Surrey hospital in Guildford awaiting an op this afternoon where they are going to install a new hip, so it's not all bad as I think it and most of his other old bones were fucked now anyway :)
Anyway, all the best for this afternoon and a swift recovery mate, ( and I'll give you my view on your bike when you're back with us ;) )

 That's quite an injury. Doesn't do things by halves eh?...well, apart from femurs. :(

If he needs anything smuggling in to the RSH, let me know. I don't quite have my own dedicated parking space there but I know my way round most of it. :eh:

Apparently getting in for visiting is pretty complex and on an appointment system, which i didn't take a place for as i left that to Mrs Crust to get as she's more important than me (i know, who'd have thought it !!!).

So i've not been down/over to see the boy.... But if it drags on then i'll be over of course... if not, i'll be taking cake and a lack of sympathy to his place :)

If people are visiting, parking is a 'mare and expensive if you do manage to find a space. (Not so bad up to 8.30am but after 9am  ). Some people use the nearby Tesco car park but you're limited to 2 hours (IIRC). Other options a short walk away are the University swimming pool (again, time limited) or the Park and Ride next to the pool. (All pretty clear on Google maps).

My guess is they'll replace it while they're in there...probably easier than mending it...although I guess if it's clean they could pin it. Either way it's going to take a while before he's trampolining again! :(

Ouch, by the level of injury you did the right thing and threw yourself under the bike to protect it? Hope you get the Ti upgrade and not stainless. GWS, Ming.
