Browsing my local Facebook page I saw someone selling those metal panniers and top box for a GS1200.

They wanted 600 quid for them. Not the rack etc just the 3 boxes.

Are they really as dear as that?

Yup. £6-700 just for a pair of panniers.

But that's mainly because people will actually pay that much, rather than telling BMW (or any other seller) to get stuffed.

Look how much the injection moulded plastic ones are too - a few pennies worth of plastic but Givi has made a fortune selling the stuff for hundreds. I can't believe the price of many accessories. Shocks are another constant shocker... when monoshock bikes appeared, compared with twin rear shocks the price for ONE shock promptly doubled.

Depends on the car. A full set of front Brembo pads for mine are £100 from ECP.

But then it's got four pot Brembo callipers on it.

Set of Brembo bike pads come in a 55 quid a caliper! I bet your pads last a shitload longer.

Wait till you see the price of mountain bike parts - £1,899 for a top of the range Fox Suspension fork or £1,685 for the Rockshox equivalent. Admittedly they are top of the range and are for downhill racing, similar quality trail/enduro forks are around £1,100.

MTB brake pads, £47.99 for sintered Nukeproofs, pack of 4 pairs which might last 1,500 miles/200 hours of riding (depending on riding conditions).

MTB cassette - my 12 speed SRAM NX (mid range quality) was £80 and will probably need replacing in 500 miles.

Even the cost of the bikes is ridiculous. My eMTB cost more than my Caponord.
