Direct him to your insurance company. That's what it's there for.

Would you have a go at fixing it yourself ?

Devils advocate like, but "disturbing" the tracking from a static impact usually involves bending or breaking something. £900 wouldn't be unreasonable for a new steering rack.

'course, it could've been fucked before.

I'd throw it to the insurance company. In fact I'd tell them right now, now that you've "gone public" with matey there's every chance he might be ringing his insurance company and they'll start tracking you down. He knows your name and address so it won't take long on the insurance database. I'd ring mine now if it were me.

True. I think my last steering rack was £1k :(

In a non-static scenario though (hit a large solid object on the M1) it knocked the tracking so far out the steering wheel was off-centre by about 15° when going in a straight line

Went to a tyre place my Dad recommended and they redid the tracking. Hey presto! I was amazed I hadn't banjaxed something. (I think the object was a lorry half shaft!)

I was in Tesco on my way back from hols sunday and saw two people reverse into each other from their opposing parking spaces. 1 had a massive dent in the bumper but then, about 10 secs later, it popped out. Hopefully the other car you hit was new and built of rubber also...:)

My old Volvo was written off in a multi car pile up on the M1. Both front and rear bumpers were OK looking....however when you pulled the boot carpet up, you could see the structure of the car was all "wrinkled up". Gotta be careful with bumpers and seemingly minor damage!

True.

Unless it's an old Saab...My old '99 Saab was a tank! - I think the bumpers were moulded around the chassis lol!

He’s a lovely chap.

I’ve contacted my insurance and registered it before I passed on my details, which he now has.

He’s worried that his insurance will go up ( it shouldn’t as it’s my fault?)

He’s worried he’ll have to pay an excess?

Anyway- I’ve given him what he needs to proceed

I had two non fault accidents settled and paid for by the other cars insurance, my insurance went up and they tried to explain I’m more likely to have an accident than someone who’s never had an accident so he’s prob right lol

£900? I think I'd let the insurance company deal with that.

(Probably just disturbed the tracking).
My wife got flashed out a side street not thinking traffic is coming the other way and took what Mr flasher was saying as gospel. Her wee car was bust indicator and scratch. Other lass car was bust tyre, bashed wing, indicator, headlamp and bumper corner. This lot must have been around the 1k mark to fix and TBH it was hardly noticed on the next years policy and i dont do protected no claims but having said that i would still want a 2nd opinion/quote.

£400 labour seems a lot, but then I don't run a garage for a living :D

Insurance companies do seem to load your policy for being the victim of bad luck. Presumably they believe in fate.

Or you park your car somewhere it has a higher chance of being hit. You can mitigate being in harm's way.

There a road in Farnborough that when I first drove down it I thought I wouldn't park my car there, on the outside of a fairly sharp corner. Next time I went there a few months later there a was a smacked up car in that same spot. Likewise not parking on exposed end spaces in car parks.

He's right about his insurance going up, they now know he parks on a road frequented by careless drivers.

Someone drove it the back of Filly's car. No fault at all. She's a named driver on my insurance - so mine was loaded too!

I've had 2 non fault claims on my van insurance over the last few years, one was the drivers door badly dented when someone reversed into it and the other was a light tap on the rear at a junction.
Neither made any significant effect on the premium.

The correct thing to do in that scenario is take Mr Flashers insurance details and claim from him.

I can't see that washing at all, if someone random tells you it's safe to jump off a pier would you just take their word for it?

Why? All Mr Flasher did was signal his presence to another road user, anything another driver does because of that is their own problem.
