About 3k in now, 1700 miles on a trip to Fronch.

Why would you want anything else, this bike does everything?

It's a strong statement, but I'd do a track day tomorrow and be happy in the middle of inters.

I'd ride it to Uzbekistan tomorrow in comfort.

I could ride it to work and get double the mpg of my (admittedly over the top) car.

Chatting to a Fronch bloke from Paris on the chunnel, he had a brand new Tiger 1200, which he only bought having had a GS and a GSA stolen, but wished he'd gone for another BMW as they were so much better.

It's just fast enough to be fun and it handles amazing with the ESA, when y9u load it 7p with a passenger and luggage.

If like me, you'd written them off as selling off the back of Charley and Ewan's adventures and blind BMW brand loyalty, then you should really try one.

The engine paint is still fucking awful though, think 90's Ducati and kick it down a notch.

You mentioned in a earlier post about the appalling engine paint quality. that was one of the reasons i opted for the Multi as the dealership at BMW were less than honest when i questioned them about warranty and any issues with the bikes or claims. They told me there were no issues despite me knowing about a couple of existing warranty claims at that dealership relating to flaking engine paint.

When i went to the Ducati dealership and asked the same questions the answer was "Dont worry, if anything breaks and its under warranty we will look after you" .....they did with a couple of things that cropped up in the first couple of months and even when the warranty expired they only charged labour for fitting a new few sender and provided the 140 ish quid part FOC

My mate was offered a GS as his work bike (Motorcycle test examiner), he said it was brilliant but couldn't bring himself to have one so got a Africa Twin instead which he didn't like much Nutter

The examiners mostly use the mahoosive RT BMW's but a local one also plumped for the Africa Twin about 3 years ago. Its now been replaced by a BMW S1000XR. He's only had it a few weeks and its already back in for a number of faults and failures with the electronics

He had a maxi scooter before the AT and has now swapped that for a 600 Versys of all things! You can barely make it out for all the high viz stickers. Although they did fuck all a few years back when he was shunted from behind at the lights whilst having someone on test. He was OK until she followed it up by running up and over him and the scooter nearly killing him in the process and leaving him with very significant injuries

So, how's life with the BBB @KungFooBob . ? I actually rang up about one today. Just been sold, today. Was an LC TE as you mentioned before. MY14. 3 box's and my interest in shaft drive has grown over the last few days.

My mate popped around today, he's got the last of the air cooled on a 13 plate, he's thinking of replacing for an LC. His Mr's is happy on the back, more so than any other bike he's had.

It's a bit of a U turn but that's how I'm leaning. Then something a bit sporty for TD fun and games, might join the green club.

I use it mostly for taking the wife to the seaside to play on the penny pushers.

It's a brilliant two up bike. I've done 3k since May and only ridden it once without a pillion... that was the ride home from the shop.

It's a technological marvel (they only got cornering ABS from MY16 onwards, but the older ones still have all the other toys as options), I can't imagine how I ever coped without the self levelling ESA before. No matter how I load it (and it was proper loaded for my Fronch trip), it still rides level and handles perfectly.

When I was looking for one in May, they were selling fast. I put a deposit down the day it was listed... while another punter was sat on it in the shop. I was very specific about the options I wanted and the fully loaded bikes seem to hold value better than the council spec bikes.

It was down to GS vs Multi, but the shaft drive just edged the GS ahead. I think I'd be happier on a trackday on the Multi, but I'd still have a go on the GS.

My R850RT* was ex-DSA. U really can't see any need for anything bigger.

* DSA grey-imported a fleet of them. I bought from Witham SV, who had 30 - 40 and a load of Pans to shift. They also had 30 - 40 Green Godesses too!

Buy a high miler? If it's a BMW, the question should be 'is it under warranty?'

Mine was on the bike when I got it.

It's a really cheap Ebay job. I want to remove it, but the guards screws replace the OEM headlamp surround screws... which didn't come with the bike.

I can't decide if I like the ones that fair the whole headlamp in and make it more aerodynamic (like it would make a difference on a GS

Prefer the cheapo to that one. Do the headlights cost anymore than any other bike.?

They're fancy HID/Xenon jobbies, so they're not cheap.

However, how likely are you to damage them?

If you don't go off road and ride behind a friend throwing rooster trails everywhere you should be fine.

If you ride at night, any cover will reduce effectiveness of the headlamp.
