Re: Travellers and the like....
When I lived in Cambridge I used to help a mate fit new carpets to their trailers so I knew a few of them. Then one of the guys in the most notorious family needed a part for his Suzuki GT250 which I just happened to have. Just a throttle cable & I gave it to him as it wasn't any use to me.
Fast forward a couple of years & I'm in a pub when some bloke decides to get a bit mouthy & challenges me to a fight ( IIRC I'd just thrashed him at pool). Couple of his mates also face off with me.
Suddenly their entire attitude changed & they couldn't apologize enough. Noticed they were paying attention to something behind me. I turned around to find several members of the family standing there ready to kick off.

Those who possess real knowledge are rare.
Those who can set that knowledge into motion in the physical world are rarer still.
The few who possess real knowledge and can set it into motion of their own hands are the rarest of all.

Re: Travellers and the like....
There are travelers and travelers. Some of them are a boil on the arse of society, some of them are folk who just choose a different lifestyle. The former give the rest a bad name.
Even the good ones can be a bit clanish, they view outsiders with some suspicion at first, but once you are accepted they can be very good friends.

Actually it is like most people. 5% arseholes and everyone get tarred with the same brush. It is just that travelers are fairly identifiable, so the arsehole traveler label sticks to all travelers.slowsider wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 6:33 pmSounds like the EnglishCousin Jack wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 5:36 pm There are travelers and travelers. Re: Travellers and the like....
I live in a Traveller centric area.
My garden backs on to the garden of some 'house bound' travellers (their garden is immaculate) and there's a proper camp about 600m from my house (although there's river in the way so it's nearer a mile by road).
There's no crime at my postcode in the last 10 years, according to official police statistics.
On my street the kids leave bikes and scooter in front gardens.
I believe they don't shit on their own door step, so to speak.

No way! 100% lovely people, who just LOVE tourists, especially people towing big caravans.
