GS 1250.
Done 810 miles so far.
Had its first service on Thursday. £167 for an oil change and general check up. They noticed the mirrors were rattling as I must have put the washers on in the wrong order when I had them off.
I had to sign a disclaimer that the cables/hydraulics were compromised with putting the Helibars on. They don’t rub or bind anywhere, just not in the position they came from the factory in. A problem that I may have to do something about when it comes round to its first MOT but that’s years in the future.
Also the headlight guard that I put on would be an MOT failure as well. Again a job for the future.
All in all pretty pleased with it.

If its one of the heavy grid metal ones i have seen on a few GS's they disrupt the beam pattern
This one has a fold down option that makes it road legal but in position is an MOT failure as i understand it

I am sure @Scotsrich isnt along these lines and his cover might be very different but some people do go overboard and i knew the one i posted has legal issues on the road, from the vendors own website, but is sold as an "off road" protection for expensive LED lights from stone damage
Makes it "Adventure" innit
Bloke who used to own this Versys 300 covered in "Round the world" kit , yes its a 300 now has a GS1200 absolutely covered in all this stuff including one of those grid and amber headlight guards ....as well as about 4 bottle holders, 6 extra lights, GPS, phone holders, multi USB charging point etc etc etc

There's one on my Himalayan, all it does is make the headlight impossible to clean and cut the light output considerably.
It's so flimsy I reckon hitting anything bigger than a bee would deform it.

This is what it’s like.
It gives a nice distinctive light and hopefully protects a £1k headlight
It might just be the dealer being risk averse and if I took it to an independent for an MOT they wouldn’t even mention it. It’s only 4 screws anyway.
I haven’t ridden it at night so don’t know if it really affects it or not.

I demoed one of these at the weekend to see what all of the fuss is about thinking millions of people can’t be wrong.
I’ve never heard anyone who has one say anything bad-quite the reverse.
To be fair I thought it was fantastic.
Fast comfortable and really nice handling bike.
I’m seriously tempted to buy one.

Unremarkable couple of months with not much to report.
Done just over 2k so far with the biggest ride I’ve done for a while on Saturday.
I wasn’t intending to go that route but a road closure mucked up my whole plan.
Ideally I’d have done a full loop and gone through the interesting way through Glencoe and home that way. But after stopping at Spean Bridge for something to eat I looked at Google maps and that said that was nearly an hour longer and the cat had been shut in all day as it was so we turned back and came back the boring way down the A9 then M90.
A long day tho.
I keep looking at the semi off road tyres I’ve got on and pricing up something more sporty but honestly I’ve had no bother so far with what I’ve got. Other than that a slightly bigger screen would be next on the shopping list.

Always put Metzeler Tourance on mine. Found them to be a good year-round tyre and would cope with 'less than ideal' surfaces.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.

Well that’s the first scrapes on it.
Was coming up to a T junction ready to just creep out as the road looked clear till a car came up on my right.
Put the brakes on and left foot down but unfortunately it was majorly on a slope. Should have put the other foot down but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Anyway over it went and the OH and I landed in a heap. Unfortunately there was a kerb and I smacked my ribs off it. Nothing broken but it hurts like buggery. A guy on a supermoto thing was right behind and he helped me pick it up and a couple of passing cars stopped too even when it was up on its wheels which was good of them.
The crash bars did their job with just a little scrape on them and one of the mirrors so annoying more than anything.
Was surprised when a voice came from the bike as it was still lying on its side. The SOS had kicked in and this nice lady was asking if I needed assistance. I have to say I dismissed it as a gimmick when I got the bike but it does work and reassuring if anything happens when your on you own.

I was surprised just how much feeling and grip the Tourance i used to give on the GS1150 i had. You could bank them happily to get rid of the chicken strips without concern on the road and deal with gravel tracks well and if i am honest i liked the fact they were so thick on tread i got a couple of thousand more miles out of them. When we did the Norway trip i had Bridgestone T30 alleged sport touring tyres on my Multi and Abel had Tourance on his 1190R Adventure which soaked up all the off road abuse he gave them. My Sport Touring tyre lasted 3500 miles under a heavily loaded bike and had to be replaced while in Norway. The Continental Road Attack rear i fitted to my Multi as a "the only tyre that had to fit the bike" lasted longer than the Bridgestone T30 by 3000 miles
