Netflix Recommendations

Post by Jody »

We're all stuck inside so can I have some recommendations of things worth watching on Netflix.

I prefer comedy, but thus far everything I've found has tired old predictable 'jokes'.

I like shows where they build stuff but can't stand when they add fake drama "if this car doesnt sell the business will go bust" "we might miss the deadline " etc

Lost in Space remake was surprisingly good. I think there's 3 seasons.
Documentary on Lemmy.
The Invention of Lying was funny 2nd time round.

It's not necessarily a recommendation for the OP, but the 2 things that I've enjoyed most on Netflix recently are:

Hyperdrive - Car based competition from the US.

Print The Legend - Documentary about the early days of the affordable home 3d printers. I know how it sounds but I found it fascinating.

I found Fastest Car oddly compelling (although there is a lot of unnecessarily repeated shots and rollback commentary).

Brooklyn 99 is funny, and each episode is only 25 mins so good for when you just want something quick.

Altered Carbon
Shooter
I quite enjoyed 'Night Shift'
Red Dwarf
The IT Crowd
Suits
ARCHER
The ZZTop documentary (they've added a few musical docs recently)
Designated Survivor

You might want to try using a VPN if you want the UK specific releases - otherwise you'll get <insert current country you're in>'s Netflix programming.

I watched the Motley Crue film ( The Dirt) a couple nights ago, well worth a watch even if (like me) you don't really know their music!

and of course I've watched The Tiger King, that is ODD, the three main characters are odd, with odd topping and a sprinkling of odd!!

First series of Alterered Carbon, but the second wasn't as good.
As a lifelong ZZ Top fan (pretentious music journalist mode ON) I preferred the early stuff. The thing about them was good.

Unforgotten, I've not seen the lead character be bad in a single thing she's been in so far, keeping an eye out for her stuff. Well acted.

Better call Saul, follow on from Breaking Bad.

Tiger King. If you haven't watched it yet (as most of the world has now).

For build series things I much prefer Youtube, theres much less of the fake drama which I really have no time at all for.
That covers all the Grand Designs type drama as well with the obligatory shot of nothing happening other than rain falling on the we timbers. That just gets on my tits.

Good example of a decent build series would be Project Binky,

We're enjoying Dark - German series, sort of weird like stranger things but about time travel in a small town dominated by its nuclear power plant. Clever stuff and entertaining.

Just watched a few episodes of Tales From The Loop, its on Amazon.

Yeah, really liking it so far, its Sci Fi but just well done stories about people.
Kind of reminds me of The Martian Chronicals by Ray Bradbury in that slowish stories kind of vibe.
The first episode seemed a bit like Dark which Dutchman mentioned but it's... more than that I think.

Thought provoking, good score and well worth giving it a go.

Seems its based on a series of artwork by a Swedish artist called Simon Stålenhag.

Here's some of his art.

Recently watched Outer Banks, some funny stuff in there but it’s not a comedy. It’s about a bunch of kids searching for Royal Merchant and it’s gold.

For laughs I’d just go with How I Met Your Mother or The Big Bang Theory. Lame in a way but kinda fits the bill.

The Witcher. Again, not a comedy but had a few laughs and it’s an interesting show.

THRED RESURECTION ALERT

Just been handed a netflix password

So far I've found;-

Cobra Kai, characters from Karate kid, but now. First 3 episodes have been great but I think I'll grow tired of the over acting/cliched characters/ having every aspect spelt out to you 100 times.

My octopus teacher. Some great photography, and it was pretty cool the relationship he built. But for my money not the heart wrencher I was told it would be
