What's the furthest you have travelled to buy a bike
What's the furthest you have travelled to buy a bike
Reason I ask is , I sold my MZ250 yesterday and a guy drove his van all the way from Switzerland to my house to pick it up.
He turned up at 8.30am , looked the bike over , paid cash then said he had to go so he could get the 4pm ferry home.

I live in Barnsley and bought a bike from Ipswich, but I bought it blind and they delivered.
Was it the ISDT MZ?
That was lovely, why did you sell it?

About 2.5 hours to get an FZR400RR from Brackley and the same to get my Z1100R from Guildford. Shortest is about 400yds when I bought my XR250.

Yes , It was a reluctant sale but they are fetching silly money and I am not rich so made sense to cash in.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri May 27, 2022 9:39 pm I live in Barnsley and bought a bike from Ipswich, but I bought it blind and they delivered.

Al the way down to Norfolk, or Farnham, or near London over the years. Not as a special trip, my bike buying and selling is fitted round visiting family and friends. Sometimes it follows, sometimes it prompts a trip

Not me but a friend sold a bike and someone travelled from France to buy/collect it. I did ride to France and got one serviced - over there it was free inc oil etc, here they charged for consumables...but that's not why I did it.
My furthest is from Surrey to Canterbury, by taxi, to pick one up.

Re: What's the furthest you have travelled to buy a bike
I once travelled about 150 miles to buy a bike, on what was promised to be in great condition. Got my mate to travel with me so i could ride back. Saw bike propped up against house, rusty chain was my least concern, told owner my thoughts and back in car and homebound within 3 minutes,
but cash still in pocket.

Bought my R1100RT ex-demo from the BMW dealer in Mönchengladbach.
Flew out from Luton direct to Mönchengladbach on Debonair (ah, the heady early days of budget airlines) then rode back to Reading.
The DM was at a bit of a low against the £ at the time so it was nearly £2k cheaper than buying from a UK dealer.

Bradford from Edinburgh but was in Southport cat sitting at the time. I also bought a bike in Salzkotten Germany but never went there intentionally to buy a bike if that counts.

To Morcambe Bay. Which with hindsight was an error. I wouldn't travel that far to see a bike these days.

Why. It wont come to you. We see many a great deal on vans on our Facebook page and folk say shite like "if you were only closer i would have that." Put the effort in. My present camperbus i got a Train to Coventry from Edinburgh to get that. One Previous was in Derby. Last work van was local but needed a new engine. I bought a van in Manchester what was a shitter but good engine for that. Previous van was in Lancaster.

Re: What's the furthest you have travelled to buy a bike
450 ish miles! I purchased a GSXR 1000 from a mate so I sent my gear down via courier the week before, got a flight down, he picked me up, stayed the night then rode home the next day.
He’s now an ex mate because he tried for whatever mental reason to pull the wool over my eyes which lasted all of about 5 mins on the bike. I got to the bottom of it and fixed the problem and he was just a cunt!
In the end up I loved that bike, great bike. Well worth the hassle

Until the GSXS which was new bought blind from Brighton, the furthest was Stowmarket which is under 2hrs so not far at all. Always bought local so I could see the bike
