Still not ready. But I could buy an 890 instead?

Lol, might not be a bad idea. I'd worry that SMC-R is a little too focused to be an enjoyable ride every time?

HAhaaha. You're right in some ways, but my riding is both short and focused... Whilst in some ways a 790 or 890 would be a good idea it ain't a 690 either.. I dunno, there's just a little 'something' about the 690 engine that floats my boat .

It could easily be argued that the 690 Duke is less focused and more suited.. but i think the riding position of the SMC-R will suit me better along with being the one i've wanted time and time again in the past. I've been very close to buying one and it was no coincidence that i was on the way back from RP1s funeral when i went in and signed up for it.

Hey, i'm not saying this is a keeper or this is a forever bike... but in some ways it's a bit of a last chance saloon, it's the box that needed ticking.

Given you like short rides and the roads around you I think it'd be ideal. My 690 was pretty much fine for 3-4 hour rides.

Tell me about it... Shot up to Premier Bikes to collect, bike was ready but the finance company had set it up all wrong, after being on hold 46 times and an hour we still hadn't quite resolved it by the time it was closing, so i came home with the MT07 for today lol..

There was a plus side to this... On the way there i realised i'd left the Wilbers on the MT07.... Whoops... That's £200 of anyones money.

So i ended up bringing the MT07 back and whipping the shock off, which is now winging it's way to Ebay.

Aye, that's the plan. Wasn't anyones fault really (well, technically it was the finance company who we were paying off the MT07 but they messed it up).

Anyone else think this is getting dangerously close to "I've cancelled it and ordered an 890 R with a fu fu valve and flux capicitor thrown in"

NAh, as i've said above, the SMC-R may NOT be the right bike... i don't sodding know.. I think it's more 'me' than the bikes. But one thing i do know is, the 790/890 range isn't.... HAving ridden one recently the 890 was absolutely brilliant, but TOO brilliant, in terms of power it's more than i want or need on the road. If i were buying a bike purely for track, it's arguably what i'd have bought instead this week, but i'm not.
For the life of me i can't comprehend how people own and ride 1000s on the road, as above, even the 890 the world just takes off on your... it's like BOOM 120mph.... BOOM 120mph.... all the time all day.

The SMC-R will tick all the fun boxes, without putting me in the 120 bracket all the time.

You've always gone on about one, so buying one is right, whatever the eventual outcome. I can't think of anything worse than sitting on a swing chair on yer porch, in a moment of reflection, thinking I wish I'd own (insert name of choice) bike. Nothing is forever and bikes certainly ain't!

Really? Happens all the time to me, not just with bikes. I see it as a good thing. If I'd not have bought thing A I'd not have that experience and the knowledge to move on to thing B. Change is good and means more new experiences... embrace the regret!
