Possible Touring Trip Next Week
I've got next week off work, so I might go away for a few days on my GSXS, I'm thinking of heading up from Suffolk, through Norfolk, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire to somewhere in the vicinity of Saltburn, then head across to the Lakes, and then back down to Suffolk through the Penines and Peak District, I'll be staying at hotels and pubs, hopefully booking them as I go rather than booking in advance as I don't want to follow an itinerary.
Anyone know of any good websites to get accommodation, preferably rural pubs, on the day you want it?

Airb&b or booking.com. If you find somewhere on booking.com it's always worth phoning the establishment directly as you may get a better deal.

In a fit of keen ness, I've ordered some SHAD soft panniers and frames for them, might take a tent now.

Do this road, it's not long, but it's ace.
Depending on timing I might join you.

It was resurfaced for the TdF, it's much nicer now than it was.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 11:28 amHave been along that for at least 25 years.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 11:20 am Do this road, it's not long, but it's ace.

I can't remember it, I just know from the map that I've ridden down it, probably on a 1985 GSXR750, so probably more like 30 years ago.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 11:40 amIt was resurfaced for the TdF, it's much nicer now than it was.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 11:28 amHave been along that for at least 25 years.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 11:20 am Do this road, it's not long, but it's ace.

That whole area is lovely... use it for training when I'm up there.

Hmm. Shall take a look. I still haven't fitted my top box yet, might take a butchers at the SHAD panniers in case I prefer them.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 11:18 am In a fit of keen ness, I've ordered some SHAD soft panniers and frames for them, might take a tent now.
Edit: Or not they list sweet FA for the 1000cc version

Re: Possible Touring Trip Next Week
If the dangle berry on the 1000 is the same as the 750 (I think it is) the 750 ones will fit.
Haven't used them yet, went to Battersea for work today, I was supposed to be in holiday, but as I'm the only person who can be trusted to make something work they asked me to go to European head office. Which was okay as today was wet and it makes me look good at work, meaning I can continue to get away with just doing the work I find interesting.

Is that the subframe?
I'll have to have a look on the GSXS1000 forum. I've not joined but searched it for stuff loads.

If you’re heading north towards saltburn then runswick bay is a nice place for an hours stop off.
Heading west towards the lakes frown there the tan hill road from reeth that drips into Kirkby Stephen is a good one. One of many good ones round there though.

Re: Possible Touring Trip Next Week
I mean the black plastic mudguard that dangles off the arse of the bike, it's held on by 4 M6 bolts, the Shad pannier frame bolts to these holes, if the holes on the 1000 are in the same position as the 750, the frame will fit the 1000.Supermofo wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 11:29 amIs that Suffolk speak?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 7:03 pm If the dangle berry on the 1000 is the same as the 750 (I think it is) the 750 ones will fit.

Re: Possible Touring Trip Next Week
When you're looking for places to stay, especially if you want something last minute, Booking.com and Airbnb are great. They have loads of options, from cute little pubs to cool places, and you can book them right before you need to check-in. It's handy for trips where you want to play it by ear.
I had a trip to Liverpool recently and stayed in an Airbnb. To get from the airport to where I was staying, I used 1st class chauffeurs. They charged me 100 pounds, but it was worth it because they were reliable and made getting there easy. They helped make my trip smooth right from the start. Checking them out might be a good idea if you need a good ride.
