Rear foot pegs back on the bike. Spacers and new bolts fitted. Quite pleased with the result. Can switch to the pillion pad when I want to take a passenger.

Managed to buy exhaust gaskets for the bike!! They are rather rare and the other source was Italy, with huge markup and extortionate shipping fees and taxes to pay. Would work out at £40+ per gasket. I got all three for £25 delivered. Still expensive (they were £6.99 when Triumph stocked them).

Also got new studs and nuts, so need to get an extractor to the old studs out. Will loosen the radiator, so I have enough space to do the work.... But not yet! Might keep this as a winter job.

I thought exhaust gaskets were just simple crush washers, like forever? Why change something that works?

You could try putting two nuts on if there's room and then undo the back one. It'll lock against the front one and undo the stud.

I paid a couple of quid each for copper gaskets for my ZX10R 2 years ago. 25 quid sounds way dear to me.

Ebay has them cheap,unless the Triumph is an odd size.

Very odd size. I'll post a picture when they arrive. Flat on one edge and then sort of oval shape. I've been hunting for them for a while and fortunately kept an eye on an Ebay seller who had sourced them previously.

Been for a ride to an ancient Church where I am doing a Baptism tomorrow. St Paulinus in Crayford. Bike is so nice to ride, really enjoying it and now that I can also sort the exhaust gaskets out, I'll enjoy it even more, but first, lets find time to do the work.

Started spraying the exhaust studs with some PlusGas. Will keep doing this for a week to let it all soak in. Going to be a while before I can head out and get it sorted, but I may as well make a start with making it easier to do.

I'll be impressed if those nuts twist off those studs. Time and road salt have not been kind, they're basically one piece now.

Best hope is twisting them out the head as a bolt, so maybe the panther pee will help, but not really convinced that it's going to creep up rather than down? I know about capillary action, but when the parts probably have corrosion plugging any gaps..?

I probably will, but as he was a carpenter he will tell me to get on with the job at hand and sort it myself...

In all seriousness, somethings you just get on with and do, and He does get all my requests for all parts of my life. I am not a "Sunday" man, it all or nothing.

Got a stud out with minimal hassles... Well that was a surprise! Yes, it was the easiest to access, the others are horrid. But I will persevere.

I've got to take that radiator off though. More work to do before I can do more work. But not this week. At least I've made a start again.

Right! Got that one recaltricant rusted to bits nut off! And the exhaust is now off! Did not have to drop the radiator, but think I shall do that any how to clean up the front of the engine properly. Not Weeksy levels, but decent enough.

Exhaust is in good condition, a bit of a wire brush and it will gleam like new (stainless - thank you Triumph).

One exhaust stud out with minimal issue. Exhaust stud now stuck in removal tool. Need large spanner to hold the nut so I can wind back the tool. 32mm... have everyone but that! 46mm spanner for rear socket, but no 32mm spanner for this thing. Breathe, think and go back later.

32mm sounds kinda like 1.25", but also sounds like vice, crescent wrench, or mole grips.

Can you not put a bolt through the socket hole and clout it out?

Edit, maybe not, the nuts are flanged and you need to balance the socket on an open vice

Nothing large enough in my tool kit (other than the 46mm. I might wedge something in that one and see if that works....
