TBH mate it arguably should go... i barely ride and if it were to go it wouldn't get replaced. But there are the odd times i enjoy a little ride out, a trip to the shop/town etc.. But i don't really do 'big' rides, if i've got a 2-3 hour ride planned it's on the pedals.
I guess a big part of that is down to the fact that none of my mates ride on the roads any more, there's @G.P and @IanB but they're a good hour from me, so even if i just go to theirs and come straight home i'm out for the best part of 3 hours.

Obviously MTBs play such a big part of my life these days that anything and everything will be 2nd fiddle to them.

I can't see me taking it on track, not because i don't think it'd be OK on track, it'd be good fun, but just the expense... Trackdays are the realm of @Welsh Muffin really now.

The only reason it isn't sold i guess is that i don't have any money in it. I think if i sold it and paid it off i'd be down about £400-600 which whilst i can afford, i'd rather not spend... so it'll just sit there for the odd day.. but if i'm honest, if the thing makes it to 1200 miles this year, i'll be impressed.

If you enjoy riding it, it's not in the way and you don't need the money you'd get from selling it, you're better off keeping it.

And it's great to read that (and the previous post) from you! There isn't a law saying how many miles you should do, who you should ride with, how often you should go out. Having it there to put a smile on your face when you're ready for it - even if it only takes a few miles to do it - is what it's all about.

How many times do we hear snarky comments about owners not deserving a particular type of bike? To my mind,if you pay for anything,you can use it in whatever way makes you happy.

I've got a motorcycle that runs but I haven't ridden it for years, I just like owning it.

If he's paying for it on finance then it is eating grass, the question I'd be asking is do I want to carry on paying for something that I don't use.
I wouldn't even accept depreciation on something I don't use, let alone actually paying out each month.

I've got three bikes sitting doing nothing, but none are depreciating and non really owe me anything at this point, if they did then they'd be gone.

Just my 2p.

But that's the rub in that sense isn't it.. THere'll come a crossover time where it owes me less than i owe it.

I'd love to be in the position where i can say it owes me nothing, but we are where we are. As i said, i rekon if i flogged it tomorrow i'd need about £500-700 to throw in to wipe it out... At the moment that £700 is going on MTB racing, Hotels, upgrades, FUEL !

OTOH, if you did get rid of it then decided that you missed it, you'd probably need more than £500 to get back on the road. At least you don't have those 'start-up' costs when there's one in the garage.

You're going to pay that £500-700 anyway in monthly instalments, plus whatever the depreciation costs you.
Whichever way you slice it it's going to cost you more to keep it than sell it now.

It's probably a bit more hassle to sell it but you're well versed in that, and then you could put the monthly instalments away in savings, then if/when you feel like you want another bike then you've got start-up money and haven't wasted any.

I'm just chatting away here, but that makes more logical sense if you really think you'll go through 2022 not really interested in it - although I get you, sometimes it's easier just to roll with what you have.

Yebbut...every £ that goes in every month is a £ that comes back out (less depreciation and interest) on selling so it's not entirely 'lost' and TBH I can't see it lasting long in savings while there are MTBs and upgrades on sale.

I've thought about it recently to be fair, but not sure it really gives me anything.... Possibly a bit more pride of ownership and going back to the Orange.

But the Yamaha really is a lovely little bike and great at what it does (if and when i need it).

My weekends are not suddenly going to get less crazy... Although i COULD if i chose jump on the bike lunchtime most days, most evenings, etc. But, to go where and do what... That's the question in some ways.
Unlike some on here i don't just jump on the bike for a few hours on my own... i'd pick the pedals instead. So really the motorbike is a transport rather than a toy.

The monthly coming out will outweigh the value, just not yet because i bought it new and the initial depreciation cost is still at the top end. But the monthly outcoming doesn't bother/worry me...

It's a depreciating asset, so every £ that goes in every month is a percentage of that £ that might come back.
Minus tax, insurance, maintenance, etc.

It doesn't make financial sense to keep it.
