Which device for playing fortnite with my brothers

Post by Jody »

Hi All,

Recently I've been using the boss' Xbox X and his huge tv to play fortnite with my brothers. I'm leaving here in a week or two and I'd like to get my own "set up" so we can play during the summer.

I'm going to get a 32 inch smart TV as they are so cheap nowadays and any bigger wouldn't really work in a small mobile home. I'm just torn on what console to use. I've narrowed it down to Xbox S or Nintendo Switch. I think the picture will be slightly better with the Xbox but it's more hassle finding somewhere to situate it. Also I'll be able to use the switch in my camper a lot easier than the xbox !

So RTTL ers, any thoughts, experience or input.

NB It might be worth mentioning that I don't want to get into gaming, I'm not fussed about having loads of different types of game I think it'll probabaly just be this one and 'maybe' COD.

Switch is a good option, just connect the charge cradle to the TV and get a wired controller as they are same size as an Xbox one (cheaper than replacing the switch controllers) the quality on the tv will be just as good 👍🏻

Don't invest too much, when your brothers hit their teens and discover girls theyll grow out of it.

Then they will get married, buy a house, build a mancave and get back into gaming to get away from the wife.

What platform are your brothers on? Fortnite can do cross-platform play, but might be a bit more hassle to set up if you are using different machines.

... and you're all playing Fortnite?

I know most people think games are for kids, but fortnite really is!

I am honestly a bit shocked by this - I thought it was for 6-10 years olds.
How do grown ups "play" Fortnite?

Answer A, It's just a bit of fun
Answer B, Ever heard of Lego ?
Answer C, Because model railways were originally aimed at adults? *
Answer D, Well I don't have kids but if I did have a pre teen, I don't think I want them playing a game centered around killing people

* Yes, I know model railways were originally for training railway staff.

I loved 'puter games as a yoof - but come age 18 the desire just completely went, like I'd grown an extra bollock or something. Sadly I have since found numerous other unproductive ways of wasting my time. :(

Adult gaming is a massive thing. I don’t play fortnite but do play pubg with a mate once a week and it’s a lot of fun. Way better than a lot of shite on tv.

If the switch can play it ok I’d go with that. The space requirements, power requirements and heat generation in a small space will be less.

I tried Fortnite once, just for a laugh. Was a strange mix of violent murder and DIY, was quite confused by it.

Much prefer Warzone, which is just the murder.

I don't really mind, though they seem to have given up on the WW2 thing anyway, it's usually modern weapons again now.

I took the plunge yesterday and ordered a Switch OLED and the Pro controller.
I'm 'stuck' here in Courchevel for a week/ 10 days so will be trying it out on the TV here and I'll get myself a screen once I'm down in Biarritz.
