Help Me Build A Bar
There is a store cupboard outside with all the junk for the villa when it was rented out as 3 apartments. We threw away lots of junk and put a beer fridge in.
But we've never needed any of the tat, so having a big clear out and want to make it into a nice bar/pub thingy. We have lots of BBQs and parties so will be nice to use a smart place
It's 2.2m x 1.8m so a fair bit of space. The only thing I am keeping is the fridge, a chest freezer and the 2 sets of small drawers for pool stuff.
Gonna rip out the cheapo shelves and put some nice ones in.
So what's good to go in ? All ideas welcome. You'll all be invited to the official opening

Re: Help Me Build A Bar
How about going for a central island to sit around and talk shite, with shelves in the corners? You would need to keep the beer fridge (obviously) and find a suitable place for it...
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

Re: Help Me Build A Bar
Well the nicer ones I've seen have looked like proper poolside bars and kitted out like a mini kitchen - so sink etc at least - and with a serving hatch, bar stools outside etc. I guess it depends if it's in a convenient space to encourage half a dozen folk milling around in the shade to gas with the landlord?
And you have to have a theme of course. And a name. "The Furry Cup" "The Whippet Inn" etc.

Re: Help Me Build A Bar
Due to not needing to worry about rain etc, i'd knock the whole wall down and have it as an open bar, in terms of a bar, with stools and an area behind.
Having it closed off and needing to walk through that door seems wrong to me.

Re: Help Me Build A Bar
I was just gonna utilise the space better. But I like the ideas of an open bar

Re: Help Me Build A Bar
I think it would be better to have an actual 'bar' - ie a counter with shelving inside it that has a very definite 'front' (customer side) and 'back' (bar-tender side). That way, you can 'hold-court' from behind the bar, while the guests mill about or sit on stools on the 'customer' side. It also means you get a lot more 'small-storage' space for odd-and-ends on the 'back' half. The fridge could be behind the counter.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 2:29 pm How about going for a central island to sit around and talk shite, with shelves in the corners? It would probably work best with the counter fastened to the wall on one side, open at the other end (for access, obviously) and with a small, narrow 'open' shelves above the wall end for displaying the fancier bottles. The front of the counter can be painted up nicely either just patterned or plain, or with 'Yoz's Bar' (or similar logo) emblazoned across it, ymmv.
If it's nicely done it'll be like a little snug in a proper pub.
Additional - can you change it so the door opens outwards?

Where the plants and rubbish sits, is the normal seating area outside the bar.

Re: Help Me Build A Bar
If that is not a support wall you could probably DIY but if is get the builder in and make a prober bar hatch to the left of the door. Bin the blue and get it all wood to match the Pergola. Couple of bar stools and bar style seating and table. Start getting bar signs for around that area. It could be a nice wee corner that. You could even get a fruit machine or dart board on that stone wall. Fancy look alike worzel jukebox

Re: Help Me Build A Bar
If you have a 'bar' top, have a cut-out for a drop-in ice bucket. Beers in the fridge, but wine bottles in the bucket.
Even bland can be a type of character

Re: Help Me Build A Bar
Then get to Ell B&Q eo for some breeze blocks and make a bar. Close the wall at the balcony to the left for that bar feel and more optics and nuts space. White may be to clinical but you get the idea. This way you keep the storage space so you can lock away the spirits when not in use or a flight comes in from Glasgow. BTW a nice bit wood for the bar top not shitty cut up slabs

Re: Help Me Build A Bar
It took 2 trips to the tip, but now I have space. Gonna paint it all and make it nice for a 50th BBQ next week.
And my builder pal is gonna pop round for a chat.
Now just to clean the pool and can have a beer
Might need to move her plants to reclaim beer drinking seats
